Hi dose anybody have any information on how to lubricate joint between body and running board and if it is good practice or not if it is necessary what oil? should be used and how often.
Thank you in advance

It is a very good idea. Three in One oil, WD40- all have their adherents.
My own preference is Tectyl but you do need to be careful about cleaning the area afterwards. I use it as I feel it's needed but certainly before the Winter when there is more salt about, the car gets washed even more and it's perhaps going to be in the garage for a little longer between drives ( although I try to use mine all year round)

Hi Les

I do mine with 3 in 1 oil plastic "can" to avoid scratching the paintwork, about twice a year on a good dry day. I'm no expert on it but it all seems to seep away.
I do the rear wing joint too.

If you have tread rubbers on the running boards, don't forget to do those as well. ( esp where the metal strip which hold the actual rubber bead meets the running board itself.) There are about three different sorts of metal all coming togther there what with screws and wotnot and it can be a real source of trouble

To the uninitiated about to be owner, where/what is this joint and why does it need lubricating?

More properly, it's a seam rather than a joint-where the panels join. You will see the running board, curved panel where the bonnet closes, and also the bulkhead, plus where the rubber tread strips meet the running board if you have extra tread rubbers
They can all be water traps, so there is a need to put something in there to try and prevent either rust or salts reaction between the different metals

PS don't forget to get all mud, dirt etc off the UNDERSIDE of the running boards when you wash the car

My handbook recommends lubricating these joints/beadings before washing the car - every time. thumbs

I spray waxoyl from an aerosol along the joint. Then I heat it with a hairdryer and it all runs down nicely into the joint. Once a year.
