Is a watch jewellery? Makes wearing one sound rather effete if so....

It's obviously a widepread affliction. I much prefer collecting empty wine bottles.

If you like interesting watches, do some research into Vostok... Russian made, can still be picked up for a very reasonable sum and yet are automatic and in-house movement. Don't be confused by the modern fashion brand, sold under the same name using a licensing agreement.

If anyone gets tempted, I have a reliable seller in Russia, who buys direct from the factory. You can peruse his wares on eBay but buy direct via PayPal.

The bracelets are poor (functional but cheap feeling); however, put onto a vintage leather strap and they punch well above their price point and are easy to maintain and service.

Neil, if you use the search function on here and use: 'watches', there is a great thread from a few years back where we spoke about watch collections. I am a big fan of 60s and 70s Omega and whilst I have some modern watches, vintage is my real passion.

Those are a couple of vintage shots I had to hand - there are more interesting pieces but I personally think they give a good impression of how Omega were ahead of their time (no pun).

As for interesting, small production, watches, another favourite of mine is Dornbleuth (http://www.dornblueth.com/) - buying one is similar to having a Morgan built at the factory; direct contact with the people making the watch and levels of customisation not available elsewhere.
