Initially I thought there was a problem with the starter motor and the fuel pump normally buzzes when the ignition is turned on. Everything else was working, lights etc. Only by chance I tried my spare key and everything was OK to my relief.
So now I'm without a spare key. What I was wondering, can I repair the old key and fob ? Is it just a matter of changing the battery or what ? thinking any advice much appreciated - Keith

Do you mean Key or immobiliser remote (plipper)? If the key, then I can't think of anything that would cause that.

Using the remote, if you arm the alarm you should hear a relay click, if you cannot hear it then in the first instance change the battery.

If the other remote is working then odds on it is the battery, however if needs be you can buy a new remote but they will need re-programming by someone with the appropriate ODB2 software

Thanks a lot Brian

..."the immobiliser module in the Ign key had dropped out..."
"The module is the small 2/3mm dia black 'pimple' on front edge of plastic section of the key and is approx 20mm long. Make sure yours is firmly stuck in"

Just changed the battery in the remote plipper - all ok now. The immobiliser wasn't even armed. Its certainly worth carrying spare batteries in the car. I had been about to call an auto electrician which would have been very expensive. Also lucky I was at home just about to warm up the car as it is on sorn at the moment until May.

Cheers all - Keith
