I didn't say it was "VERY cheap", I said "it does seem good value", there is quite a difference. wink

Furthermore, I agree, it is probably on target, or more, than he would be offered by a dealer. Many of the S1s that come up for sale privately are offered at dealer money which seems unrealistic to me; why buy private when you can buy from a dealer at the same price and have the legal safety net?

If it checks out, it is good value; if the history isn't up to date, or patchy and the car is less than perfect, it would not be. The S1 is the most challenging of the Aero range to keep in good condition due to the limitations inbuilt at the design stage. It simply wasn't designed with maintenance and ease of service in mind - it was built more toward a racing car design (hence the appeal to some). For this reason, S1s are not always what they seem and can cost more to keep in tip top condition than other Aero models.

I have to disagree with some of the comments made in the last post as The MK 1 is more or less the same car as all the other marks - even the new plus eight looks a similar nightmare to work on.
Try changing the 'O' rings on the braided oil lines from filter to crank case if you don't believe me. Just because the later models had (for example)rubber mounts to drive line etc doesn't make them easier to work on, they were just less track focused.
If this car was on dealer forecourt you would be looking at 38/39k, so IMO he's under priced it by at least 2k. Anyway, it's all incidental now as the car's been snapped up by some lucky guy from Sweden....

I agree Robo, Series I's are eminently collectible imho and prices are still quite firm. As most of us know, Morgan sales are affected by the time of year they are on sale and the present diabolical weather does have a deleterious effect on selling prices, but the trend for well cared for Aero's is on an upward spiral.

I think the owner needed to raise cash quickly, he also has his large VW(Bentley) up for sale cheap and a pre '63 MOG plate so maybe not planning on owning another Morgan. I spoke to him and he is a thoroughly unpleasant man.

I'm pleased its sold, someone done very well there and good news its left the UK. It's still on eBay and Pistonheads however.

How do you know it's going to Sweden Robo?

Hi Chris,
I e-mailed the guy as I wanted to buy it and sell mine.(nothing wrong with my car - just higher mileage)
He told me he'd taken a deposit that morning from a guy in Sweden - another case of "He that hesitates is lost"
Regards
Robo.

Hi Robo

I know what you mean, always nice to have a very low mileage car especially if your planning on doing a few miles. I guess he's keeping his adverts live until the transaction is completed. There certainly seems to be a following in europe for the S1 even in RHD form.

Hi Guys,

I put down a deposit on this car, sorry guys blush.

I am flying in to Heathrow London and then on to Peterborough by bus on Sunday, going to view the car on Monday morning, if it checks out OK I will go ahead with the purchase that day.

Did an HPI check and its all clear.

One of the comments above got me a little worried so I will be cautious on Monday, if the car is not right I get my deposit, walk away and fly back to Sweden.

Hopefully though it will all be OK.

Just had a look at the ad cars only 10 miles or so from me, can't believe I haven't seen it about.

Good luck with the viewing Mack1201. Will we be seeing the car and you when we're in Sweden on the Nordkapp challenge?

Oh and Welcome to TM
