On the subject of secondary alternators my old formula Ford used a small alternator mounted on the side of the gearbox and was driven by a belt off the drive shaft flange. Would there be space under the seat area to mount an alternator and drive it off the propshaft. Just a thought.
Also what is happening to vehicle classifications on the 19th of January. This one seems to have passed me by.
I had ordered my 3 wheeler with heated seats as I enjoy them in my daily driver and with experience driving a Jeep Wrangler for many years, after the sun goes down (even mid summer) it can get rather chilly when at speed. So, if heated seats wouldn't be available right away, I would need a back up plan. I know I have posted this before... but, this is my low tech answer to combat the cold passenger

It is entirely possible that I am just being a wimp these days...spent a winter in the arctic a long while back and did a couple of thousand km on skidoos - the heated grips gave up after a couple of weeks and the nearest I got to frostnip was very mild on the face due to not having a heated visor - that sounds like a really good thing. Reverted to face mask and goggles and problem went away. Was working so spending long hours outside every day in nearly all weathers. Think I just like my luxuries too much so really need to just get on with it! Still going to have heated feet and gloves though - I may be a wimp but I'm going to be a warm wimp. Anyway - who's going to be first to Nordkapp in winter by three wheeler?

I bought my and a female colleague one of these each last year in November and although they are effective the ladies end up smelling of spent lighter fluid and this was deemed not a good smell by them both.
Plan B in December was to refer to my late Fathers open cockpit flying days, whilst instructing in the winter months he would don a pair of his tights. Fortunately I never witnessed this otherwise I fear I would have been scarred for life. He always wore silk gloves beneath his leather gloves as I believe he did throughout his wartime Spitfire days.
The result of my thought process was to purchase silk gloves for both ladies, and glad to report they are still in operation since a year ago December.

This gives an idea of where the alternator is situated.....you can just see the stator (?) or armature (?) through the cutout. At the time of taking the photo MMC were a bit cagey about anyone seeing inside the housing as the cush drive component was being kept under wraps.
Thanks for that Jays it would probably be necessary to upgrade the rotor, stator and diode block. As has been hinted at in PP's I would strongly suspect this has already been engineered on a Hog or derivative thereof. Re-inventing the wheel is the term that comes to mind, someone that needs the additional current demands will reveal this with the aid of Google or other conduits out there.
If this proves fruitless, which I doubt somehow, then will be the time for an alternative solution to be looked into possibly utilising an additional belt drive from the propshaft.
A prop driven alterator the type used in small civil aircraft is another possibility, you don't need heating unless you have sufficient forward momentum being the logic applied. Solar etc. etc.

The effect on anyone in the UK who already has a license is nil in respect of driving a three wheeler, although for some a renewed photocard licence will look odd. Issue however is that anyone who has not passed a car test, will need to be at least 21 and have gone through all the motorcycle training - to drive something with car controls that needs to be positioned as a car.
I picked up my 3 Wheeler from Allon White in Cranfield on 1st December when it was -2C, they fitted heated seats which work wonderfully. My only cold spot were the fingers of my right hand and I worked out that the exhaust pipe can be a very effective hand warmer. If you dress up properly you are never cold, driving on your own with the tonneau half on also conserves the heat, your face can get a bit cold but if you buy one of those biker neck scarves and pull it up to the underside of your goggles it works a treat The most important part is a really good lined RAF helmet, I bought one at a market in Tallin in Estonia for £15 and it looks great and works very well

I flew to Aberdeen from Bedfordshire to pick up my new M3W and drive it back to Toddington with my wife today. 10 months old looking like new and 800 miles on the clock. But, sadly on the A92 near Kirkaldy all electrics failed and the mighty V spluttered and died. Battery flat, meter reading 11 volts and no charging. Fuses and all connections checked but to no avail. Our mighty adventure and first ever drive in the M3W was over after 2 hours! Recovery and a hire car some 3 hours later and we are now home minus the M3W. Morgan assistance no use as closed till 9am on Monday. Ace recovery people were great so now I need to know if local dealer Allon White need to have it and what is wrong. The alternator was the one item I could NOT see anywhere, so I suspect it's not an easy job! Any comments?
