I used to run a motorcycle shop and my wife and I have heated waistcoats that plug into the accessory socket, keep you at 50 degrees c and draw only 2.2 amps at 12 volts , so about 26 watts. Very effective on trial at home. Sadly new M3W broke down (alternator packed up ), before we got cold on our first 550 mile journey from Aberdeen where I bought VM08GAN back to Toddington Bedfordshire.

Our mighty adventure and first ever drive in the M3W was over after 2 hours! Recovery and a hire car some 3 hours later and we are now home minus the M3W. Morgan assistance no use as closed till 9am on Monday. Ace recovery people were great so now I need to know if local dealer Allon White need to have it and what is wrong. The alternator was the one item I could NOT see anywhere, so I suspect it's not an easy job! Any comments?

Sorry to hear this. There was a similar unfortunate post a while back on a new M3W. I think it was the stator that is buried inside the engine. I'll try and find the link.....

Most likely the rectifier. I had a similar issue and had to replace the unit with a Harley Davidson unit. The motorcycle shop reckoned existing units were bit fragile. The HD unit more robust. Rectifier is the finned unit bottom right front of engine.
The mount was also upgraded to the three point, from two point. This two point mount is known to fail.
Luckily mine was still in the garage when battery went flat. I charged battery and drove to mechanic to get it checked out.
HD sites have easy methods to check to see if its the alternator or rectifier.

Desperately frustrating when things like this happen, hopefully it will just be the rectifier, as you suspect the alternator is deeply buried between the engine and cush drive - see the photo posted a couple of pages back in this thread.

Does this mean that my M3W is all alone in Aberdeen now? I had been told that there was another one around here somewhere but never got to see it.
Apologies if it seems like rubbing salt in the wounds but I had a great run yesterday up to Tomintoul and back over the corner of the Cairngorms.

I completely agree. we do need to have this type of info. Seems wierd not know basic stuff like alternator capacity and exactly what is the volume is in the gas tank.

25ltrs. or so with a reserve of 5 to 10 ltrs.

I filled up on zero last weekend and it took 17.5ltrs, previously on zero it took 22 ltrs. Nothing like consistency then!

thanks - I heard from my dealer that the seat heaters and H4 100/90 bulbs are fine with the alternator on the thing is running.
