I want to get some new stone guards for the 61 Plus 4. I would like some that are substantial and fixed with something much better than the little bendable clips. Anyone know any good sources?

I bought a set of Stainless (no, not Chrome Plated ) on ebay for £11.00 + Postage. To fit them I drilled out the tiny hole in the flimsey clips so that they took the 2 top screws holding the rubber to the wing. ( the ones at 10 o'clock & 2 O'clock. I needed to change to longer length self tapping screws and to add in a 1cm spacer made from large size plastic Rawlplug (Could have used a piece of Biro Pen instead) as the clips were too short to reach the wing lamp gasket. The lower screw (6 o'clock) one fits in line with a angle slot on the lamp metal surround and does not need the spacer. I used a small nut & bolt on this one. Then I angles the mesh to be the same angle as the Grill Mesh and fitted the clips there. Then I used pointed nose pliers to 'wrap' the end of the clip around the circular rim of the grill so that none can easily remove them. They are a solid fit now. The Grills stand off of the lamp glass just enough to get a cleaning cloth behind them. I hope this helps Frank

I hope they are better quality than mine. Mesh went rusty after 3 years, so off they came and now in the bin.

With help from here and there, I have found two sources for stone guards of the type I was think of. One is from Complete Automobilist and one from Holden Vintage. The price is around the same (135 & 140 w/0 VAT) and shipping would be the same. They appear very similar but the attaching brackets are slightly different. From the illustrations on their websites, the one from CA uses four and from Holden three attaching brackets. Holden describes there's as being handmade. Both are chrome on brass. Anyone see either of these? Is their a difference in fitting or quality? Thanks Bob

The (expensive) Holden and Complete Automobilist ones have a flat mesh rather than convex and are very well made. They are really for pre war cars I believe. I enquired about these some time ago but they will not fit over the normal convex glass of a Morgan

Sods Law prevails . I fitted the Stone Guards to avoid another Smashed Headlamp, so, to Get Even with me, the car shakes the nut off of the Front Overrider Bracket which is now vibrating hell out of the Winker by taping on the glass . So currently I have limited movement by using an elastic band and a lump of Blu Tack until the shops/garages open again next week .
