Has anyone changed the heated windscreen on a modern Plus 4? I was barrelling down the A3 and a chunk was taken out of it by a flying stone. Its taken out the heating element so I need a new windscreen. The insurance company only uses National Windscreens and they have ordered a replacement from the Factory - they will only supply complete units - pillars and all. Bit nervous about letting someone from National WIndscreens loose on Doris without me there.
It looks like an easy change - just undo the bolts locking the pillars onto the side of the body, pull off the windscreen and presumably connect up a heating connection. Am I right or is this more difficult than it looks? Any tips or things to watch out for?
I'd really appreciate any input you maight have.
Thanks
Ben

I have removed my non-heated windscreen and it is as you described. I guess there is a simple connection to remove for the heated screen.
One watch point is the screens is the screws from the pillar to the screen - there should be three and one is shorter than the other two - make sure the short one goes back from where it came or you can/will crack the screen.
Not sure of your cars age but perhaps you might get the modified screen supports as a replacement? Just a thought?

The dash needs to come out to access the connections for the windscreen, otherwise, as Richard says, its a pretty straightforward thing to do. Make sure they take the wipers off first!
If it is an Easyup hood car, it will have the stronger alloy screen pillars already fitted.

Thanks guys. Any tips for taking off the dash - is it just a matter of unscrewing the screws and lifting it off or is there something else to worry about?

Thanks guys. Any tips for taking off the dash - is it just a matter of unscrewing the screws and lifting it off or is there something else to worry about? More or less, just two screws at either edge. Depending on clearance required gauge and switch wires may need unplugging. I found it easier to also take off my steering wheel, but then I don't have an airbag so quite simple. If you do - be careful! I've been able to do most I've needed without disconnecting anything and resting the dash against the steering wheel.

If its a later car, you will need to unscrew the dashboard lower panel at the outer ends to allow the dash to lower. Dropping the steering column down as far as possible will give enough access to reach the heated screen connectors without disconnecting any dash wiring.
