G, my grandfather was in the RFC initially with DH9s in France and then he ended up specialising in training balloon reconnaissance out in Egypt. I have his RFC badges and his Mentioned in Dispatches in my WW1 collection.

Pete..just read about Grahame Donald.....what an amazing escape! Something you'd read about in "Boys Own" or see in a film!

I met him in his twilight years in the mid 60's and his wife and daughter had wanted a swimming pool, so he dug them one and did 70% of the building work himself. When I started to teach his daughter to drive he shook my hand and said he hoped to see me again - in one piece. As per another thread they don't make them like that anymore too far too many regulations playing to the lowest common denominator.

Jay if you like a good book on World War 2 try Decisive Battles of The Second World War
Edited by Brigadier Peter Young .
It's written by German , American , Russian, Japanese , Polish etc . So you see the war from the other side . Its interesting when an Adolf Galland writes about the Battle of Britian . I have a book case with loads of war books bought books for years along with a very wide mixture everything from The murderers whos who to a book on strange people ( no mog owners in it ) YET. thumbs

John,
Do I have this vague recollection at the back of my mind that Peter Young is the guy who founded " The Sealed Knot" civil war re-enactment Society?

PS by the way, the reason I have a particular interest in Collishaw is that his parents were both Welsh- father from Wrexham, Mother from Newport

Thanks for that link G..... how did you guess that I like aviation art?!! I'll probably spend hours now perusing that forum!!

Having said I'd call it Black Beauty I'm being contrary and going to call it Nero...a name that suddenly popped into my head as I drove back from Blenheim on Sunday.
