Does anyone know what the total coolant capacity is of the Aeromax? It's not mentioned in the Owner's Handbook.

I do not know if it's different but in the Aero8 MKIV handbook it's written (page 4):
Cooling system 11 litres (2.9 US Gall)

You're right - I must have missed it: it is on Page 4 of the Aeromax handbook and it's also 11 litres (2.9 US Gallons). Mechanically, the Max should be identical to the Aero 8 MkIV, Super Sports and Coupe - and I suppose even the new +8 too.

What gets me though is that the coolant capacity is very small for a 4.8-litre engine. Compare that with a diminutive Suzuki Cappuccino (engine displacement 658cc) with a coolant capacity of 4.0 litres (8.5 US pints) and a Ferrari 412i with a 5-litre V12. The latter's coolant capacity is 18 litres (4 Gallons)!

The winner is still the 997 I had before with 31.5 liters of coolant for a 3.8 liters engine.

That (997) sure take a lot of beating...

I'm sure the 4.8-litre V8 BMW engine gives off just as much heat as the Ferrari and the 997 and hence their large coolant capacities.

But I guess the factory knows what they're doing when they gave that small [coolant] figure...

BTW, I drove across the Nullarbor on my way back to Perth a few months ago and noted that the water temperature gauge was reading uncomfortably high - in fact, a little more than 3/4 of the way up! Usually, it would read Normal even on a long run. So in that respect, I would have thought that a larger coolant capacity could be the answer.

However, as it's nearing the time for a system flush and new coolant, I thought I would try a product called Evans Waterless Coolant. From what I've read, it looks like the solution to my query - to keep the temperature gauge from climbing too high even on a long run!

Mine is usually staying in this range.



Only once I had to top up the coolant (since I got the light on in the dash). From that moment on I am keeping it under control but I never had any further level drop.
The same happened to me with the 997 after the first or the second time I took it into the garage (underground with a step ramp).
I guess that in both cases there was some air in the circuit.

Thnx for the tip! I'll check for air pockets when filling with fresh coolant. (Hadn't crossed my mind to check for air in the system...)

Don't forget the 911 has the engine at the wrong end and the rad at the front 8^) and so it needs to fill the pipes.

Ale, my coupe sits between 97 and 105' it does not go as high as yours. Having said that I do not have the air con on and it has not been as hot since I have had the coupe. We should chat re the other fun findings.

Chris: the research of done on Evan's waterless coolant is mixed. The flushing of the system to remove all water has put me off. Although there's a supplier in Perth.

Hi Richard. It can't do any worse than the standard ethylene glycol I have in the car! So I'm giving that waterless fluid a go.

I have already installed this product in one of my other cars which I'm taking for a field test this Sunday morning (the 22nd). This car also exhibited the same problem (temperature running higher than usual) as the Max.
