Not that loud but yes...very similar but about 40% as loud...
So I gather that an engine pull is required to tighten the nut?

Crowbar - have a look at the great pics and info posted on the Upgraded Compensator thread Upgraded Compensator thread If you have this type of compensator (its the new alloy one, but not the newest - the newest apparently doesn't have a grease nipple ) the grease nipple is accessible by the circular hole in the bottom of the housing. Mine has this type, and when it starts to rattle I will need to somehow attach a grease gun and pump in some Morris K323 premier blue grease. Can't say I'm looking forward to attempting that maintenance task the first time it needs it.

Engine out is required, yes. Has to go back to the factory at the moment in the UK.

So to end my confusion are we saying there is a history of 3 compensators? ~ the original ~ the new alloy one with a nipple ~ the new, new alloy one without a nipple.
Anyone have any chassis numbers with break points between each? Is there a performance difference between nipple and non nipple? This is crazy isn't it?

Not quite the whole story; i think.
The original one was alloy with no way of re-lubricating
Originals were re-worked to add grease nipples by drilling the bell housing then drill and tapping the compensator housing for two grease nipples diametrically opposed.
The 2014 allegedly has an improved design; not sure anyone has seen one yet in the flesh?

If you have two nipples should you be OK or just alive? Going off topic fast. Trying to sort out when you are getting as good can get or somewhere in between unacceptable or perfection.

Good question, this was the Harley parts, that were used, natural habitat.
As it is, there is leakage of grease over time.
Perhaps the new version?

Mine -was replaced under warranty - here in the UK as it degraded massively at 2,000 miles and on a trip to Begium and back turned into a "big tin of large loose bolts". Very good now with the new one.
