Well have had the new Centa unit in for a few miles now. Much smoother take off but is anyone else finding some new vibration on falling revs?

I've had mine for about 400 miles now and it seems to be not so smooth as the older design. However; i'm hoping it holds up after going through 3 of the old type in 4000 miles!

Thanks guys My car hypochondria is certainly tested by the old 3W I too am hoping for the best after going through three of the older designs. I am trying to understand why some fail and not others. I'm a committed throttle blipper on down changes( I presume most are) wonder if this is a factor? Also now seem to have a slight rattle from the input or layshaft at idle. disappears when revs rise.I think the Centa design would have much more free play so maybe this slack is transferred in some way.

Funnily enough, they tried to persuade me not to use the gears for breaking and not to blip the throttle on the way down when i went on the complementary drive with M3W. I can see its a bit harder on the clutch to use the engine braking and probably gives the compensator a hard time too. I was wondering whether the increased roughness felt in transmission might be less radial compliance in the Centa drive and less tolerance to possible concentricity issues of the two shafts (engine/transmission). However, i've not set aside the time to study pictures of the two set ups to investigate further. Like you; searching for a reason why mine has chewed its way through 3 of the previous type. Perhaps its best not to think about it too much

The purpose of heel-and-toe downchanges is not to use engine braking. It is to get the clutch plates engaged smoothly towards the end of the braking phase on the approach to a bend. This will cause no harm, rather the opposite, when performed correctly, surely?

It's the modern way using the brakes. Just doesn't seem right to me. Probably the biker in me

As I have always understood it, it is to synchronise the crank shaft speed with the gearbox input shaft to stop any transmission snatch and possible rear wheel partial lock up on releasing the clutch.
Also it impresses your mates when done well.
