scared
During two weeks on the CoteD'Azur I have had just two! Both through vehicles approaching from the right.
At a wide junction in built up residential area car on collision course going too fast. My passenger saw it first and yelled.
Next I just joined a minor road and a parked vehicle pulled out in front not seeing me in his blind spot. Wife yelled and spared us both a nasty.
Cause?... Ashamed to say due to a lack of anticipation.

Maybe your anticipation was more guided to traffic from the left side, because you're uselly drinving on the left side of the road in the UK??! scared

Do you use your headlights to improve chances of them spotting you?

Similar events mean I always drive with headlights - hoping they spot my black MOG!

Cheers

Prioritaire a droite is still common in urban areas .I think it's mad and folks need to be aware of it. Next time you are in France note how many vehicles are dented on the passenger side, there are a lot of them. Drivers of a certain age will still pull out of a side road without looking - we see a lot of that in the Aveyron. In general I would say that the driving is of a very poor standard. Glad that you were unharmed.

+1. It is a very stupid rule. At least now it is only in towns & not on major roads

French driving is one of the reasons I like my LR 110CSW. Even a frenchman will think twice before pulling out on a 2 tonne Land Rover doing 110kph, (but only assuming he's seen you). I have also uprated the brakes, so if they do pull out on me I stand an excellent chance of avoiding action.

While touring in France, we have had only one near miss in the Morgan. As I have a 4/4, the brakes are excellent!

One disadvantage of the steering wheel being on the 'wrong' side... Glad you are safe. smile

We've just got back from Italy (not in the Mog) where rules of the road seem non-existent. It appears that driving is a permanent game of 'chicken' with bikes and cars heading straight at you on the wrong side of the road and pulling back in at the last second.

One of the locals summed it up nicely when he said the STOP sign is just a suggestion! scared

I am French and lives in France and have a RHD PLUS 4.

With a RHD you have to be careful when you enter on a highway and when you overtake.

By default the rule is "priorité à droite", right priority, except on the road where you have the signals AB2 and AB6 :

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panneau_de_signalisation_routi%C3%A8re_de_priorit%C3%A9_en_France

which are used on the main roads, but not in the town.

When I drive in UK, I have to be very careful, the signals are not in the same places in regards of my common reflex, and turn right and roundabout need some concentration. I suppose it is the same for you in France. But I admit that drivers are cooler in UK. If you go in Italia, it is an other experience!
