The standard wheel listed for the Roadster in the Morgan price list is a 6.5" X 15" Black Sport Wire (X 4).

If you go back to 1990 you get some Morgans smile

I don't key in the make but use the box below to key in the stock tyre size and then the box to the right for comparison sizes.

Radius of the 205/55 R16 tyre is 12.44 in or 315.95 mm

So I guess my Mog has optional wheels, they are stainless wire wheels, 16" and I have 5 of them! They are not exactly light.

I'll play about with dimensions and see where I end up. Anything to improve ground clearance....

The number after the slash is the wall height of the tyre expressed as a percentage of the width. At a width of 205 the next wall height of 60 would be approximately 10 mm higher. According to the comparison chart it would have a radius of 12.84 in or 326.20 mm, a fraction more than the tyres of the 4/4. You would have to be careful it did not touch anywhere such as on full lock on a bump.

It is the clearance on full lock for the front suspension that concerns me. With brake reaction bars fitted it is already marginal.

I'd almost prefer narrower front tyres, say 200 or 195 section. Interestingly both our modern cars have narrower fronts with a higher profile. But I suspect that taking that route wouldn't look "right" on a Morgan.

Also the winter tyres on the BMW are on 16" wheels with a 205/60 profile compared with the summer tyres on 18" wheels with a 255/35: rear and 225/40 front.
The winters give a much better and quieter ride as well, but then they are not run-flat tyres...!!
I've considered keeping the winter set from the BMW when it goes in 2016 and using them as all season tyres on the Morgan! The tread pattern is much more "retro" than the asymmetric Avons fitted from new.
So I need to re-check the dimensions to see if they will work.

I'd agree but this will only ever happen at (very) low speed manouvering. I have this issue (hence the roller stops) but at normal driving speeds I don't see the issue.

To check clearances you can always put the car up on axle stands, then turn the wheels to full lock and Jack up the wheel to maximum travel.

Don't forget to factor in tyre widths if fitting none standard tyres or wheels

A site I have used for years with regards tyres and wheels

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_size_calculators.html

Very informative

I recall seeing somebody else post something similar a while ago but I can’t recall who.

Do you have sand in your monoblocking or do you just pressure wash? Looked at several sealers for mine but have not got round to doing anything.

Kiln dried sand in the gaps and no sealer. I have quite a bit of block paving and I don’t like sealing it (and yes power washing sometimes). I prefer it ‘au naturel’. Much more manageable long term IMHO. When my old Landy marks his territory occasionally I can burn it out with a blowlamp and brush it away with a wire brush.
