What irritates me most is drivers who cruise the 60 limit at 45, for mile after mile when it's impossible to pass. Especially bad on the Fosse Way! How true. Bikers know how to deal with drivers like that. Mind you the Roadster can make a fair fist of the bike style "Cake Slice" overtake. "Cake Slice Overtake?" I hear you all ask. It goes like this 1. Pull up a car's length behind the target moving at the same speed but in a gear that gives you the best "go". 2. Move out so you can see past the target. 3. If clear move fully into the clear lane and floor it. 4. Blatt past the target making a lot of noise and frightning the idiot. 5. Pull back in front and carry on "making good progress". It only works if you have a vehicle with very rapid acceleration in the 30 to 60 zone. It is inherently safe as you only go if clear and once past the target it is easy to get back on your side quickly. I should think a new +8 with side exhausts would make it a wonderous experience..... It is

4. Blatt past the target making a lot of noise and frightning the idiot. Just because someone is slower than you are on the road doesn't make them an idiot. I just try and make the best progress I can without upsetting other road users.

Just because someone is slower than you are on the road doesn't make them an idiot. I just try and make the best progress I can without upsetting other road users. But like many things in life, driving and use of the roads should be a Team Event, where people work together, not against eachother. To drive constantly at 40mph in a 60mph limit (as my father-in-law does) with a queue of frustrated cars behind is far from considerate. As the Highway Code says, drivers should adapt to the prevailing road conditions and the traffic. To 'Blend' with the traffic is key here, but very few drivers understand that. More to the point, I firmly believe that the Motoring Enthusiast (ie: us) is a dying breed and I'd wager that genuine drivers who take a proper interest in how they drive (and to a certain extent, what they drive) are in a massive minority, which is why the Autonymous driving cars will ultimately rule, as probably 80% of drivers would love to not have to drive. Enthusiastically enjoying cars like ours will likely be restricted to tracks in the future.... All very depressing I fear. Which is why I will continue to enjoy my M3W, despite the glitches, graunches, rumbles and occasional grind-to-a-halts, until such time as I can't. Well that's what I think anyway

Where a slow car holds up the 'traffic' and opportunities to pass are few, then that driver will face a series of cars accelerating hard to get past, often with little space, with noise and with the constant risk of an accident. We see this time and again on roads like the Fosse. It can't be enjoyable, and if they went slightly faster, most drivers would be content to sit at a distance behind. An indicated 65 (so nearer 60) is enough to keep most drivers happy on roads like that. And yet there are 'numbers' of the sub 40 brigade everywhere.

In the summer season, the back roads of southern France are full of Dutch and Danish tourists who drive everywhere at 60kph, except when they are obliged to brake for a 90kph bend.
