Digressing a little, I also love maps, sat nav is great for getting you through an uknown city, but the map takes skill and knowledge to use properly, a bit like manual gearboxes. The auto does, in most cases, a better job, but those that have mastered the requisite skill to use a manual box to the full, get much more satisfaction out of it.

Remember DoD can take the satellites down at any time.....and the way things are going in the world at the moment. Most yotties that I know if on passage record lat long every hour in the log. I always have at the minimum a road atlas and normally an OS map with me. Down here satnav normally takes you down the most unsuitable roads. So yes I am part Luddite  Edit predictive text

I always keep a map in the car, although I do use a satnav. The satnav is just a guide, I ignore it at times if I see an interesting junction! Great in towns and cities though where you need to concentrate at junctions etc.
I do like to look at a proper map though before a journey so that I can visualise what the route is.

Perhaps Ironman had already had a few wines to many and should be considered to be the Luddite!, Matty I wholeheartedly apologise for my comments, we are all here to learn something and I have learnt that I should be more tolerant of people who's views differ from mine. I am enjoying the Brooklands......but.....up to 350 miles beautiful, all of a sudden loads of gear whine which wasn't there at the start, Should I go to dealer,should I ignore it, Assume it's the dreaded bevel box, This is not good,Cant hear the sat nav over the racket :-) different topic I spose
