I know that some of the dealers offer a service where they will apply a vinyl type covering on the vulnerable parts of the car (eg front, runner boards, front rear wings etc). When I inquired it was quite an expensive option. Does anybody know where you can get the pre-cut panels for DIY? Has anyone done it DIY? Is it difficult?

Might be easiest to go to one of the companies that specialise in vinyl wraps and see what they can do for you. Getting vinyl to lay over compound curves without wrinkles is not an easy job at all.

Weighed against the value of the car and the cost of respraying stone-chipped panels, it is not really so expensive as a dealer-fit option and it is highly effective. Don.

Does the covering mask/hide small chips etc?

The 3M is a spray version of vinyl wrap type coverings. There is a video of it on YouTube showing it being applied to a car. Search YouTube, I did as I am considering trying it. Video is good in that it shows what to do and what you will see during application and what to look for.. Any chips need repair first and you spray it over a waxed finish. It peels off so no disaster if it goes wrong.

This is an excellent idea. A local vinyl wrapping firm fitted a good quality material (Defendall springs to mind) for a friend for around £200. Only sloth on my part stops me from going down this route. The better firms have fitters with accreditation from manufacturers I think.

Morgan now 6 years old, vinyl applied when new by dealer. Very effective, stops all those nasty stone chips which I used to suffer from on my previous Morgan. Agree with Don (Max5) relatively cheaper than respray.
