Just found my original "going sprinting" thread from 2009... For those that want to read the story of how it all started .... There is quite a lot of narrative.

Update 48 - Lights, Interior and Doors

You saw in the last update the seat brackets were being measured up ready to replace the fabricated passenger seat bracket for a nice new one.

Having cut and mounted the bracket to the seat we now have a nice looking set of seats in the Blue and White car again.

Now the seats are in there are a few bits of electrics that need to be sorted out at the front.. the horn needs to be mounted and the wiring for the rad fan (a new kenlowe unit) and the otter switch needs to be sorted.

We still need to give the car a face - in with a new set of lights and on with the indicators..... better get them in the right place!!!

The Headlight kit you get, bowl (police mans helmet), light unit, rubber gasket and chrome trim.

in the process of fitting the off side unit - using stainless hex bolts to hold it in.

Drilling out the N/S mounting holes

This shows the lighting unit mounted in the police mans helmet with the trim off....

Now that's a nice face all looking spick and span

Next back to the interior trim - our banding has arrived and it looks really smart having been nailed into place - finishes off the door frame nicely.

Also last time you saw the crash pad on the dash it was all stripped down ready for trimming - with a bit of ingenuity its been trimmed and fitted - slightly different from the original factory fit as we wanted a better finish to the leading edge of the leather trimming on the pad - in the original the leather did not wrap around the pad and instead just a raw edge finished at the leading edge of the pad... our version wraps the leather around and tucks it under the pad giving a nice clean front edge.

You can see that the cut outs in the crash pad now the leather is on makes a nice finish for the brooklands screen mounts.

All new rubber gaskets and screen seals have been fitted to the original mounts and screen.

Last job before set-up is the doors - unfortunately I didn't take any pictures in the process of assembling and fitting the doors... it took all day and there was a lot of fiddling to get the leather trimmed properly and the doors (simple as they are) all put together appropriately. The finish is great in the end though... the new aluminum inner door panels look smart even though they blank out the door pocket option that used to be there.

The fit in the door aperture from the outside is really nice.. the re-fitted wind beading under the paint creates fit lines that are all uniform and straight.

This leaves us with a car back together with only minor detail elements needing to be sorted out... ECU map and front splitter for instance.

Update 49 - Woodstock steering and rear end

Woodstock had a cam and peg steering box, its age and wear was showing - loose off dead center and overly tight in the center. This is quite common with old cam and peg steering boxes and there are fixes available (GEE for instance can do a lot) however for me the steering was never going to be as good as the Gemmer steering box in the Blue and White car.

I managed to pick up one of the only available new Gemmer steering boxes from MMC (possibly even the last one they have). The nice thing with these steering boxes is that the swap is pretty easy - unbolt one and swap for the other - all the steering components being pretty much interchangeable.

You can see we had a helper for the day - a Swanmog member who is an ex spanner man came over to help get things sorted... "play" for the day. He did a great job!!

Now the new steering box was in place it was given a quick four wheel alignment and set-up.

Next up getting that back end sorted out - you saw in earlier pictures we test fitted some of the rear light plinths and spare wheel cover just to get an idea of the color contrast... interesting.

We whipped the rear end parts back off and fitted the new gaskets on and popped it all back together - we also need to sort out the rear end valance and numberplate light. In the pic below you can see the rear end in situ with the ali rear valance panel in prep.

We had cleaned up the inner wheel-arch and again used windscreen sealant to final fit the rear wings.... using the M8 Stainless Steel bolt headed screws. The black beading providing a nice framing effect between the yellow and grey... with the wheels on it shows how striking its going to be.

You can get an idea of what the back end is going to look like below...

Another weekend and the rear lights are all wired in - also the long standing delivery from Burton's of the LeMans fillers arrived and these were fitted to both cars - again our Swanmog helper did a great job getting these fitted.

Moving forwards - more trimming work progressed, along with fitting the roof bright-work.

Final fit of some carpet along the back behind the harness bar, getting the harness bar fitted - you can also get a glimpse into the color of the leather we will be using - a slightly lighter grey. The combo is striking and good looking in real life - the pictures don't quite do it justice.... the extra work Dad's cousin put into the body of woodstock to get all the panels straightened up means that the paint job really stands out.

Under the dash the fabricated battery tray (featuring S1 Aero battery) and fuel filter are fitted. Inside the ECU and wiring loom are fitted ready to be loomed into the car.

That's all for now folks - more soon - including the Rolling Road result having come back from being set-up today!!

Seems the starters flag is almost in sight.
