I would appreciate some advice. I have a new +4 Gdi which I have brought back to U.K. for its first service. Of the problems I hoped to get fixed the one that I would appreciate advice on is re. the Speedo. It reads 10 % too slow i.e. Speedo reads 90 kph when actual speed just above 80. Discovery/Mini/ TR6 and even courtesy car are relatively accurate v. GPS so why is it that Morgan advise that the 10% difference is standard to all Morgans. Is this true or rubbish and am I being fobbed off? If you have a new Morgan is your speedometer accurate. It is astonishing that when you pay £45,000 plus on a car the speedometer is so much more inaccurate than that of a car costing £15,000 and Morgan do not appear to care. The trip from France was hell. I did not realise that at motorway speed conversation was impossible but that was a minor problem because it started to rain and we were both then too involved in trying to avoid the many leaks into the cabin to care about the noise. Please don't get me wrong, I love the car and in future will endeavour to avoid motorways. However, I am disappointed that some relatively simple technologies like speedo accuracy on a new car is beyond Morgan

Yorrick I have exactly the same issue with my GDI reading 10% too slow. I tried to reset using the web based instructions for the speedometer manufacturer but that didn't work. I contacted the dealer and they don't know how to reset the speedometer so it has been referred on to Morgan. That was 5 weeks ago and I haven't heard anything yet from the factory. If the speedometer over states the speed by up to 10% that is acceptable but to understate the speed is not and puts us at risk of speeding fines. If/when I get an answer from Morgan I will post on the forum but don't be fobbed off by Morgan. If anyone else has the same problem please let us know so we can have evidence that it's a common problem and they need to take action to sort it, mine is a mph speedometer not kph but the error is identical. Which dealer are you using? On a more positive note my car is virtually watertight so perhaps some adjustment to the hood may resolve that particular problem with your car.

In my experience the speedo on most cars are inaccurate and read up to 10% higher, it's not just Morgans.
We have Ford vans that are electronically limited to 62 mph and staff report the speedo as reading nearly 70, but the electronic limiter is definitely correct.
Just think, when you belt past a speed camera it might be the difference of getting caught.

Thanks Andrew, will advise dealer's name after picking car up from service. Redmorgan, thanks yours. Up to 10 %? but when it is 10% then they could do better especially on car at +£45/-. Perhaps my experiences with Land Rovers/ Jags/TVRs/Minis has spoilt me for owning a Morgan. Lastly, with that I accuracy I will rely on the GPS which only cost £100, not Morgans speedometer

Misread the slow reading in the original post. My speedometer reads 60 mph and the gps shows 65 mph, for example, so I am always travelling more quickly than the speedometer is indicating. I would be happy with 10% over but 10 % under puts me at risk of a speeding fine even when I am trying to behave. Same point though in that if I find out how to adjust the speedometer I will share the outcome.

My understanding is that it is illegal to have a speedometer that under reads, whereas over reading isn't a problem. Something needs to be done!

OK, daft question time.
Is it necessarily a given that the needle reading on the speedometer should match the speed given on the digital readout at the bottom of the dial (which I think is a great feature)?
I have compared them both at various speeds and they appear to match each other but the needle does tend to flicker a little.
I assumed that I was doing the correct speeds but if they work in tandem and they are both wrong then a GPS check is in order.

Better to read over than under.

Scratched My speedometer and digital readings match as well and I thought everything was fine but presumably both readings are derived from the same sensor and as they are both part of the same speedometer it makes sense they read the same. I would check against a gps which will hopefully confirm everything is ok but if not I can't believe it should be that difficult to recalibrate the speedometer, once we have the information on how to do it. Reading the VDU web instructions the speedometer would have been calibrated, or not, at build and it seems a few minutes work would put it right. I can only assume that when my car was built the wrong pulse reading was input or it was installed with whatever standard configuration is supplied.

In defence of Morgan speedometers the Smiths gauge (beautiful!) in my 2013 4/4 is very accurate matched with the readout on the Tom Tom GPS.
Just thought I'd say.
