Dear all, I haven´t used my Fifi the Plus 8 4.8 for a couple of weeks due to daily torrential rains, not affecting my poor gal who has been residing in her garage. Nevertheless she howled at me when I turned her wheel at slow speeds. The servo seems to work normally and the howling turned into a soft whining which is barely noticeable at speed. Now why does she do that? My Morgan salesman is on holiday. Lack of servo fluid? Where can one check that? Kindest rgds from Sweden, which seems to have acquired Scottish weather this summer.

Belt slack and or slipping due to water. Not uncommon and just needs taking up a little or left to dry overnight and it might stop.....if your lucky!

What's the mileage on your 8? Just curious - my power steering is noisy, but doesn't howl.

I have the same car as you... it's probably the belt, as already advised... the belt is a complicate serpentine thing that does the alternator, water pump AND power steering.

If the howl is only at full lock then it is "normal" as the power steering fluid, unable to further move the rack, goes through a relief valve. The howl should dissapear as soon as you turn the wheel away from full lock.
If it makes the noise all the time then it may well be something more significant, as Neil has said.
I have a photo of the front and back of the BMW engine, sitting on a crate in the factory, I've posted it seperately.

Dear all, what a relief, it is when I start bringing her out of her sleeping quarters and off to work. I howl as well, but for different reasons. We both become quiet rather soon. So it might be, as Peter has said, a normal reaction at the stress of daily life ....

Not enough fluid? Has it fixed the problem?
