Does anyone know of a maker or supplier of longitudinally divided hinged insulating connector covers (as described in a patent numbered US 3147338 A) ?
I ask as having relocated the battery to the rear of my plus 8 I now have the main battery cable running along the floor inside, and since there is a join in it anyway right by the gear lever it makes sense (to me) to have this as the "jump-starting point" rather than groveling around on the starter solenoid terminals which are perilously close to bare metal.........

Warning. their is a lot of chassis near there.PS What I have done is found the main cable to the starter as it exits the bulkhead, then stripped approx. 1 inch of cable. Easy to reach. when not in use cover with a piece of split hose to insulate.

athelstan- many thanks. Only logistical hurdle now is although I was born where you live, I now live in the Left Colonies 9California) so sadly will cost more to ship than the cost of the item........I don't suppose there are any clues on yours as to the maker?

This arrangement may not suit your location, but on the MBGV8, there was a split connector on the main battery feed on the inside of the chassis leg. It was a simple threaded stud through a flat steel bracket, but insulated with a top hat (at each end) profile nylon bush. The flat steel bracket was then secured to the chassis with two captive studs and nuts, but also insulated with nylon bushes. The battery feed connectors were then covered with standard caps - as fitted to an old fashioned solenoid. You can see the arrangement here:
