A while ago I was watching one of the Police reality programmes when they pulled over a car in Essex where the number plate violated all but one of the regulations (including having a Playboy logo). The dizzy blond driver didn't have a clue! The copper advised her to go to Halfords to get legal ones made up. As he set her on her way she asked "Where did you say I can get new plates ..... Harrods?"
DOH!!

I have to admit to being a criminal. I have black and silver plates on my Roadster.
I do carry my correct plates in the car under the seat! If I get stopped I'll just accept that I knew I was breaking the law and hope to get a slapped wrist the first time.
Every day I see a number of cars....usually 4x4s....with illegally spaced characters or wrong sized plates.....mine at least are correctly spaced and sized...just the wrong colour hide

On the subject of Police I watched a program on monday night about Yorkshire police the A1 (M) along with other roads. One driver of a 38 ton wagon drunk and crashed it lucky no one killed . A taxi driver on A64 shot out of a side road in 5th and smashed into others he was drunk road policemen are not fools he could not speed off from a low speed in 5th no torque in 5th.
But the best one the police chap was sitting watching the A1(M) . Along shoots an old 3 series BMW 1986 in outside lane 97mph. He off after her she shoots into middle lane and is almost on the driver in fronts boot lid . The chap pulls her up what BS she came out with , two little boys in the rear and she was in a hurry as one wanted a pee. The copper said, "you past 3 exits why did you not take one stop and let him have a pee in the bushes." He asked what speed she was doing 85 mph , he was spot on to this dope and took no prisoners told her thats the speed everone claims. Then went at her for the distance from the car infront and her children . She starts to tell him she is a good driver ( a very thick stupid blonde without a brain would fit my discription ) . Not happy with being pulled up she could not shut her mouth admit she was wrong and went on at the camera about how good she was before driving off . What kind of upbringing has that idiot had .
One thing the police chap said was its 70mph they allow 10% then an extra 2 mile that makes it 79mph , he did say if it was lifted from 70mph to 80mph the public would think 90mph was the speed to travel at , he is correct.
It made me think deeply about a 1/2 shandy when I drive after the amount that drink and drive .

First stop £100 fine for misrepresenting a number plate, report to DVLA who put it on ANPR. £100 fine next time, three strikes and your out. DVLA will withdraw the plate and apparently issue a Q plate. So beware.

So then your Morgan could be called a kit car!

I thought it was rofl best bit of kit I've got joy

Ive got a nice plate for you then ....K1T NX .....

Found it easiest to have a blanket rule that I dont drink anything alcoholic at all on the same day that I drive. I know it sounds a bit pious but its much easier than making a judgement about how much will trigger the limit let alone then sticking to that quantity.

Had a learning experience some time back, luckily it was in the boat rather than the car and it didnt do any damage. But there was no denying afterwards that the two pints of ordinary bitter that I had had with lunch over two hours had damaged my judgement and made me a bit gung ho. Ran the boat aground.

I'm no fan of drink-driving, but it stikes me that people who drive like tw@ts when they are drunk are quite likely to still drive like tw@ts when they are sober.

People who are normally careful sensible drivers are unlikely to go mad and mow down pedesrtians or whatever just because they had half a shandy with their chicken in a basket.

The big thing to watch out for is driving the day after having had a drink, especially with some modern wines coming out at 14% or even more

A bottle of wine over dinner with a large G&T to start and a decent malt whisky to finish may not seem a huge amount to drink of an evening, but it's 14 units, and if you don't sit down until 8:00PM you'll still be at risk at 10:00 the next day.

Agreed about the DrinK Driving.

When I think back I am embarrassed and ashamed at what I used to do in my 30s.

I never got stopped ...but more by luck than anything else.

Now older and wiser I hope ..it's any drink no drive.

I do also believe that the England limit should be lowered to a level where it's the body's normal level.

Love the thread drift BTW.

I have an alcometer. Not so I can drink and drive but so I can monitor the effect scientifically. Two glasses of wine so half a bottle with a decent meal puts me just over the limit. One glass for my daughter who is small puts her close to the limit. We eat late but even so the morning after there's no trace. Add a glass of port though and there's residual alcohol even though it's nowhere near the limit.
