In interviews Morgan make a lot of their commitment to customers and to their product. You need to get politely tough with them I think. Bad publicity is not going to please them. I have driven over 350000 mile in my Morgans and never had a handbrake cable snap, or suffer failure of chrome. It may well be that you have been unfortunate but for your continued pleasure and trust in the product it needs to be resolved. Welcome to the forum: you will find a lot of help here.

Didn't this happen to Jays - on the newer cars with self adjusting rear brakes this is a real pain to replace. Interior out job etc...

I would ask VOSA why there has not been a safety recall for this known failing component and if they didn't know it was a problem they will when you inform them.

After all a parking brake cable is safety related.

Pretty poor attitude from Morgan in all honesty.

Another welcome from an ex Malvern resident.

I agree with the other responses that MMC should at least be making a contribution for the handbrake repair.

Like you, I originally used the factory for servicing, but ever increasing costs drove me away. As well as Mike Duncan, you may like to have a word with Mark Middleton, an ex- factory service mechanic who has set up on his own just outside Upton. His contact details are 07880 722638 / mark.middleton11@btinternet.com. No connection other than being a satisfied customer.

I think my '70 4/4 still has it's original handbrake cable. Failure at three years is unreasonable.

I would ask to see the cable and expect a full explanation as to why it's failed so quickly.

Corrosion at 6 months! My '70 4/4 is now due for a complete rebuild, but it's 45 years old and has well over 250,000 miles on it. It was kept outside for the first 3-4 years of it's life in Canada (lots of salty slush).

Can't you work at reversing this over time? It always seems a pity to me to keep a valuable car (any car of value) outside whilst the garage is simply crammed with stuff. But that apart I think MMC's attitude is ill-advised and when I read reports like this (and there have been many) I sometimes wonder why I bother supporting them. Thank goodness I have a first-class dealer nearby and another a short distance further on. I think it is sound to follow others' advice and find an alternative to MMC.

My cable snapped after 6 years due to water ingress and eventual corrosion.
