Dear All, I appreciate this is asking for generosity as it is not my morgan that has suffered but knowledge and advice here is usually of good quality on such things.
Last night a low life deeply keyed a number of vehicles on my street. a common problem in oxford. Unfortunately they have left a deep grove in the paint work of my skoda superb. its only a year only and i'm quite miffed. i was under the impression that it was an unwritten rule that you dont key a poor skoda, but pigs can fly...
They have gone through the clear coat, paint and primer down to the steel in some places.
I have spent the last few hours investigating how to repair this myself and there are no hard a fast rules on the internet. Most people seem to be peddling a product, whereas i want to know the best way to a top quality home repair.
I can get the correct paint from skoda no problem.
I have made one firm conclusion so far: the internet is full of products that claim to have the mystical powers of Jesus, where you apply some gunk, give it a swirl, then a firm rub and it will fix the problem. I am treating these products with suspicion. I dont see that clear cut will work once the grove goes down to the steel.
SO what is the correct way to repair a deep scratch?
do i need to sand down the whole bonnet panel? do i need to sand down 1 inch around the scratch? do i just apply paint to the immediate scratch with a small dab?
will the paint blend well with the original paint job if i sand down one inch around? likewise for the clear coat?
If there are any restorers or experienced people i would love to know what is the correct manner to approach this problem. I am in need of wisdom and advice Otherwise i will have to take it to a body shop and will be none the wiser for next time. Thanks, Charles
That's a real shame. My advice is to call in the experts. There are guys who will come to your address with professional equipment and fix this at a very reasonable cost.
You can buy the colour and clear coat in one, small pot off ebay ,its in nail varnish pot with brush, bleed it in fine layer's then with a cotton reel and very fine wet and dry ,flat it off and then bring back the shine with a mop ,the whole lot will cost you a tenner if you have a mop ,but if you not confident get the professional in ,should not cost no more the £100
I'm sure that anything you do to try and cover the scratch will make things worse.. It is mettalic so very difficult to blow in even by professionals. We would send it to our local painter and expect him to paint the bonnet and blend in to the tops of the front wings . You must pick a good shop or the colour match will ruin the car don't mess with it your self ! Cost in our area £150 to £225 .
There is a company called Chips Away .they come to you. They are not expensive ,I used them when I badly scuffed a 4x4 .If you have a local Chips Away it would be worth getting a quote.
