Ah! Actually I didn't see it there. It's a common practice at American shows to require the car to have a fire extinguisher. I have to assume that there were incidents of Car-B-Qs in the past.
FYI, although quite pretty, this is a metal tire cover and I have to believe was atrociously expensive to manufacture. This, and the compound curves of the back deck, led the MMC to continue the flat panel (less labor, easier to produce), as used on the back of the production Series 1 2Str, on the production version of the Series 1 DHC.

I've had six mogs over twenty years three with and three without spare wheel covers, never noticed if the spare heel has deteriorated with the cover more than without.
Personally I would think that to get the best match to the upholstery/tonneau/roof material you'd need to get it done at the factory. However Sean at allon whites is an upholstery wizzard so if the car were a little older and an exact match were impossible then I'd plump for Sean to do the work. I think he'd be better value than the factory as well.

Just a thought, seeing Marks beautiful coupe with the metal tyre cover, now that MMC have produced the 'Dome' for the back of the spareless AR+4, I wonder how difficult it would be to modify it to fit with a spare wheel in situ?
Thanks to all who have contributed, I'm still not sure though, if a wheel cover is better or not, even if it one with the centre missing so the spokes can be seen and appreciated.

Forget the wheel cover.
If you exchange the spare wheel (together with the standard wheel set) after 4-5 years you are safe.
I would not keep any wheels for more than 5 years as they harden and loose grip.

Wow, Mark. I had forgotten how handsome that rear deck is, and the tire cover is exceptional. It would be enough to change my mind about spare tire covers, except that it would cost thousands to duplicate it. Wasn't it fabricated by a RR specialist?
