Well, there are four mounting points, actually two pair of mounting points, with two bushes per point (both sides.) It could be possible that there are several that are not bad and could be reused. The older material used (rubber?) however wears faster than the newer Poly bushes.
Cheers,
Mark

Mark,
I really don't look forward to taking the floor up again so I will renew all 8.
I had problems with the 3. gear on my +4 2000 mod. The bushes was OK but the problem was the housing of the ball inside the remote unit, see attached picture. I did send the remote unit to Brands Hatch Morgan for service. I got exelent advice by phone from Keith at BHM seaching and fixing the problem.
A grub screw?? I have never needed one nor actually seen one not in situ. If you could, a pic would be great. Cheers,
According to the GoMog guide to +8 (1977-2004) and +4 (Rover versions 1985-2002) Gearbox Remote problem, allen screws there seems to be 4 issues: the rubber bushes, the grub screw, the tensioning cup and adjusting the remote.
In the earlier remotes it appears that a grub screw was used to hold the remote yoke to the remote shaft. In the photo posted by Ragnar he seems to have an upgraded screw to hold the yoke in his remote to his remote shaft. As his car is more recent than mine (2000) I assume he also has a later version of remote. I cannot send you a photo of mine grub screw as the car is in France but I will take a photo when I strip the remote down in around 10 days time. If it is still tight I will not disturb it but I want to ensure it does not let me down at some time in the future.
Personally and for what it's worth, I would avoid stripping down the remote (it's possible that I've misinterpreted your intentions) as resetting the detent tensions for the 3rd/4th bias and reverse lock-out can involve a fair bit of fiddling and trial and error to get it right.
Also, I've never heard of the grub screw coming loose so your problem is unlikely to be due to a fault here.
Simply clean the remote as undoubtedly it will be covered in years of accumulated crud.
Incidentally, your car should be fitted with an LT77 gearbox and therefore the remote will be fitted with a plate held with two bolts and springs to provide the reverse lock-out.
