So last August I bought a new grease gun for doing the dreaded king pins from a well known store (apparently they are good at fixing screws). My son borrowed it last week & commented it wasn't pumping grease & when I tried it today to do the king pins I couldn't get any grease out either. So found the receipt & took it back to get a replacement. This was going well until the guy said did it have grease in it; obviously it did otherwise how would I know it didn't work? 'Sorry sir we cannot take it back with grease in it, health & safety' !!!!!!
I asked how I was supposed to get the grease out (loose grease, not a cartridge) but he was still adamant. Eventually he went out the back & I assume he spoke to someone (a manager?) because when he came back he continued with the paperwork & I got my replacement (which works fine).
A ten minute job turned into a couple of hours.............

I had a similar incident with the same company with a drill I bought from them, it would not hold a charge with either of the 2 batteries, I was asked to leave it to be tested and they would call me, after 3 days when they had not I rang and they said they could not test it as it seemed to have an electrical fault and they could not test because of H&S. At that point I asked if they sold emery paper? The guys seemed surprised and said yes of course....I then advised him to get some sheets and rub all the rough and sharp edges off the drill......silence......then he spluttered and asked 'why?'...so I informed him I would be calling round the next day to shove it up his ****.
2 hours later they rang me and said a new drill was ready for collection. After going to get it I have never darkened their door again.

There's a roundabout near me suffering with oil and petrol burns to the greenery. All due to a "DIY superstore" not able to accept mower / genny etc. returns once they've been run (or not run 'cos the cheap Chinese engines are stuffed before they've run for more than 30 minutes). And no, it wasn't me...

I got the dreaded diesel bug in the fuel on my boat so the tank had to be drained. Not a lot involved -= maybe 5 gallons. Anyway I took it up to our local dumpit with the intention of putting it in the tank used for oil disposal. "you cant put that in there" says the oik. " why not?" says I. "because it isnt oil" says he " and its against H$S". " but its fuel oil" says I.
I didnt win.
The same dumpit wont let you put any pots of used compost in the garden waste skip, again for H&S

H&S on what grounds? Diesel is certainly not a problem mixed with ordinary oil and used garden compost presents what sort of hazard. Do they think the Incredible Hulk or the Blob is suddenly going to leap out of it.
Then people get upset because stuff get poured down the street drains. If the authorities who make the rules don't provide for disposal they can't complain too much when people find their own method of disposal.

Our local tips are closing down apart from one in the nearest town. The lads who work in these tips are going to get re-trained to tour around and try to catch fly-tippers!
