Given the costs of the new Aero I m a bit surprised that people arent using agreed value high net worth type insurance ie the policies that give you control over who does any repair and gives you back what you paid for the car rather than glass's guide if its written off.

OK the Lotus was a different price level but I sold it to a dealer for 60|% more than the official book value and he resold it to joe public with 4k on that figure. Illustrates what [problems I could have had with an insurance write off

Howard - I am with Admiral Multicar, very mainstream.

Some scumbag backed into the Coupe in Reading Oracle car park. When I asked Admiral to organise the repair I had all sorts of worries about the company they might use. Once they realised what the car was (X-car youtube links etc) they were actually very happy to send it back to the factory and let them do the work. They could not have been nicer about it.

They sent an expert to check the car, the factory were great and it was approved quickly. No questions or problems. I do see your point about agreed value in case of a total wipe out. Especially with an Aero which does have issues with repair of the tub.

It made me laugh when the person at Admiral said, "I am certain we have someone local to you who can repair it sir. pause. pause. pause. pause. Nope, not one, thats a first"

Interesting comment Alistair. I allowed myself to be frightened / talked into using expensive insurance that is agreed value and agreed Ferrari repair. Cots just under £1k plus of course the tracker at £300pa. It was the agreed value bit more than any other as I illustrated with the Lotus. The "book figures" that insurers use are based on auction results and the Loti that had gone through auction were the cars with problems. The same would happen with Ferrari but what they would get as auction data on an Aero I do not know - they are far more rare than Ferrari or Lotus. Probably no data at all.

The obvious concern is that you pay ( say) 80k for an Aero, write it off and end up haggling at £60k

I find it odd that I can get insured on a 4.4 litre v8 aero 8 for £350 but a diesel Volvo XC90 costs over £400? Strange.

I have just changed from Heritage to Admiral Multicar as the renewal for my Aero Plus8 went up and they wanted a big premium (more than the Plus8) to insure my new Roadster. I have always found Admiral to be very good for 'normal' cars and i saved over £150 on each Morgan. Only thing is, they won't insure my M3W at all, so that one will have to stay specialist.

I have been with Heritage for my first year.
I checked out the competition (Headley) and there was only ten quid difference, for 5,000 miles, comprehensive, breakdown, and .
So I am staying with Heritage to retain the footprint and save the paperwork hassle.
