Worked on a friends 89 Plus 8 yesterday. He had a long punch list. Fixed what we could but there were a few things beyond my abilities to correct. He needs to have his offside Armstrong shock rebuilt. Leaking badly and his car dies at a light or stop. My guess was the ECU? Rebuild as well. Thoughts??
After a day a mucking about with grease, we took the 89 Plus 8 and my 86 Plus 8 out to a pub for dinner and a pint. About a 10 mile drive.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi, the stalling at stop was a feature of a 93 Discovery I had some years ago. It was a 3.5 but don't know which type of EFI it had. The problem turned out to be a faulty vacuum canister/diaphragm on the distributor.

Thoughts?? . , ECU not likely IMH, more likely to be the stepper motor on the flap valve that controls the air coming into the engine. The stepper has 100 segments and these can get dirty and give voltage miss-readings, then the ECU does not know where the throttle position is. When no throttle it needs to be 3.5v, if I recall correctly. Initially I would remove and clean with electrical contact spray, refit making sure voltage at closed is correct. Hope this helps.

From experience on running a clas b v8, I would simply remove the idle control valve and give it a good clean with carb cleaner

Wrong voltage I think it's 0.3v at idle, check it out to be sure.
