Eric certainly on my long door car the scuttle roll has a gap in front of the dash with no padding underneath so that would hide the nuts.

A simple magnet test will show you if it is ali or not.
Good luck

My suggestion is make steel plates for the lower/nut side. That way, you don't need bigish washers and can use normal ones.

Stewart.....your scuttle IS Aluminium....the older cars had a steel one. It's your bulkhead that is stainless steel.....the only part of the car body apart from inner front arches that is.
I'm not sure on your 2000 car if the three crumple zone holes are drilled...I think that they were introduced a bit later.
My aeroscreen mounts were bolted on to the scuttle with penny washers fitted under the scuttle to spread the load. The mount sat on top of the leather padded roll which meant that it flexed very slightly. Ideally you want to cut away the rubber under the leather to give a firmer mount direct to the scuttle which I believe Stefan did to his wife's rather lovely Plus4 which was at TOTH and as mentioned earlier, the Cottage in the Wood.

On the factory race cars, they mount the feet under the scuttle padding directly onto the scuttle with a hole punched through for the top of the mounts to project through. This give the most secure mounting but means peeling back the padding and then re gluing back.

Good luck!

Thanks John, you might well be right but I've got my build book and original invoice and it does state an extra charge for stainless steel in non specific areas

I had assumed by looking at these photos, that the material and colour difference on the scuttle through to the panel break under the door and the cowl were stainless

Stewart, These are the Simmonds feet on a short door (89) and therefore steel
scuttle.

Stewart....Sorry, I'd assumed your car was newer than it is. The scuttle certainly won't be stainless but it could be steel as could be your cowl. A magnet will certainly tell you!

meabh.......I tried for three years to get hold of a set of Simmonds aeroscreen feet. They are so much more secure. But he constantly let me down with promises, sold a set he'd put aside for me to someone else and his lack of communication was worse than the factory's. He's now given up all that to concentrate on his steering wheels. I wish someone else would take over the screen mount.......Cain where are you?

Which bit will the first owner have paid a premium to be stainless - will it be the bulkhead?
