where did you place the heat shields? Are they for exhaust heat, protecting the electrics?

One of the most extreme heat generators on a '60's +4 is the muffler. It is on the right side (In US Passenger side). In order to keep Mrs. Button as comfortable as possible I fitted a sheet metal heat shield over the top of the muffler. I did this by cutting (with My angle grinder) a metal pipe in half. It was a bit larger than the glass pak I was using as a muffler. I had the "Muffler Guy" weld it into place. It worked for years, but seems the weld caused the muffler to fail. So I must find a better way to attach it in the future. Winter project.

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to order this material today. I threw away the original insulation on my trans tunnel and now the leather gets so hot on a summer day that I'm worried about it.

It's not difficult but the material is very sticky when you peel away the backing, I did my trans cover when it was out of the car, much easier on the trans cover just cover the entire cover then cut out the holes with a razor blade
