I currently have carpet covering the bald patches. Grr!

Unfortunately this is the case with any water based store bought paint, you really need an epoxy based paint that you get online - must more expensive but durable and won't come off. Same stuff professional garages will be using.

Only issue is I doubt it will adhere to the old paint as well as bare concrete, but as you are only having issues where the tyres are then it could do the trick.

Otherwise cheat - and buy 4 x grey carpet tiles from B&Q and put those where the tyres sit.

I wouldn't use an epoxy paint/sealant over the top of the existing floor paint. The reason your existing paint is lifting is because calcium sulfate leaches out of all concrete as a loose powdery residue. The concrete needs acid-etching to neutralise the surface layer, but you can't (easily or cheaply) do this because of the existing paint - so catch 22. Use tiles as suggested, or a bonded continuous vinyl roll product.

Thanks for the tip Nick and Stuart - an excellent idea. Yes, I remember the powdery stuff, which I tried to clean off as much as possible.
The paint was Screwfix 'No Nonsense Trade Floor Paint'.
Perhaps I should do a pair of tram lines so that I can fill in later with a full floor of fetching grey ! thinking

I went to do that with my garage and my missus went bananas. I was building a utility room with a downstairs toilet while at the same time extending the garage. The builders merchants had a cancelled order of urinals and they were going for £23 inclusive. I thought it was a terrific idea.

This is what I mean. This photo was taken just before a cleanup, and gives a fair idea of what the tiles will look like in a real-world state. They look great when mopped and polished, but it takes a good couple of hours and so doesn't get done very often.

Nevertheless, the tiles give a great surface and are a lot more comfortable to kneel on than concrete.

It's a triple, 10m x 7m. We went as big as we possibly could, but did have a slight tussle with the planning people as the footprint of the garage is bigger than the footprint of the house.

That's a corker, Tim. Big enough to operate as a Morgan dealer!
