Could it happen that an engine swap comes more expensive than to sell the ARP4 and let you built a good looking ARR6 as mr11mog did? After all you can sell a genuine unmodified car and you would get another new unmodified one. Both cars would keep better value than a "former" ARP4 with such a massive change when you should sell her sometime in the future. Agree entirely. Surely this would be a less costly option or, indeed, cost neutral? There are quite a few 3.7 or 3.0 Roadsters for sale.

The cheapest option will be to spec a new Roadster like Peter did. The 3.7 engine needs the Mustang instruments and dash. I suspect the axle will be a higher ratio.

Thanks to you all for your considered comments, all will be investigated, SimonH, very useful reminders of what is required and Heinz, Rid967 and Dave you make an excellent point about residual values, but I quite like the whole ARP4 thing, except the power unit, hence my original and probably less expensive thought about just substituting softer cams to give lower power but more torque, the only problem there is that the engine will need remapping and as the ECU is locked, it will mean a new ECU, just to add to the expense, although I am awaiting a reply from Mark Evans at Aero Racing about that one.
All other ideas and comments will be gratefully received.

I agree. Save the aggravation and sell/buy the Morgan You want. I have done a lot of modifying. Does not work economically.

Paul TDI Tuning in Chelmsford can get into any ECU and re-map it.

Paul, to be very honest, a 2litres capacity engine without variable cams has it's limits concerning torque. If down or mid torque is what you are missing... I can be wrong... but I see a slight contradiction between getting softer cams in combination with Throttle bodies. TB will get the best of it at higher revs. And in addition you would start a probably not before proved experiment when changing the cams. At the end it could be costly and it is not guaranteed that it will work properly.
On the other hand, any 4 pot will be significantly lighter than a 3.7V6 Roadster. It is the old dilemma. If I could have a 180 HP engine full of low and mid rev torque but not heavier than my 4/4 it would be the best Mog I could think about.
I don't know which style of driving you prefer, if it is cruising, go for a Roadster. If you like a little bit more agility and nimble curve behave go with four pots.
If I were you I would also scan if there is a good serviced used P4SS available. I drove 23.000 km with one. While having TBs as well as the ARP4 the mid torque from 2.500 on and high rev torque of the P4SS was really very good due to the variable intake camshaft. and here on TM were morer stories posted about the last update of the P4SS which made them really cool and even more powerful which I would like to experience sometime if possible. Of course I'm biased to see the benefits of the P4SS and forgive me proud owners of a ARP4, I never drove one, sorry for that and I think there are many happy drivers of ARP4 existent. So many different solutions for so many different needs.
One solution (for me, just playing with possibilities) could be an additional rotrex charger to add to my Sigma engine, only to boost very gentle and save with low pressure, but that is another story...

Paul, Your ecu may be locked but if it's a normal after market ecu (DTA, MBE etc) it can be reset and then mapped again as will be needed with the new cams. It's then open for you to play with. Far more important is, will fitting softer cams and remapping give you the power and torque you want? The suggestion of a bigger engined car has a lot going for it. A trip to the dyno to find out exactly what sort of power you have might be worth while before you spend on any changes.
Cheers John

Are there turbo or supercharger options out there?

At least in the past Omex offered their Duratec breed with a Rotrex charger option, belt driven.
I have such a solution on my Elise. It is a 1.8 Elise S Toyota (not by Omex) with 136 HP in standard configuration. Now with the Rotrex charger since 8 years she deliveres 220 HP and 260 Nm of torque. But I had a blown engine when it was new and only plug and play at that time...so I got different pistons 7 years ago, who reduced the compression. Now she is a really very fast car but anyway I would never go the tuning path again considering all the hassle and frustration over the years before she run properly.
I would like to add, if Omex offers a ready solution with a complete engine it should be a more safer purchase.
