Had a great drive to Como in my 4/4...visited Lecco to sort out some admin on daughter's upcoming wedding...parked Morgan in car park near the Bell Tower and I was approached bt a very big black guy who said he would "guard" my car for 10 euros !!!!...left sharpish and found somewhere else to park !!!
I used to park there often but got fed up with the "migrants" constantly trying to sell me something: everything from cigarette lighters to pirated music CDs and porno DVDs. The police are supposed to be moving them on but it appears that they always have something more important to do and only arrive when someone complains.
I have never had anyone demand money to watch the car and I have never heard of of any cars being damaged.
Having said that some idiot decided to set up a migrant camp just outside town and there have been complaints about behaviour, particularly towards women and girls who go to the nearby pool, ride bikes or jog along the riverside park, etc.

This used to happen when going to gigs in central Manchester or Liverpool..you felt you had to pay or your car would be damaged by the "guardians".
T'was regular in Nairobi downtown & they carried baseball bats. Also normal in S Africa where I am off to Sunday
Usually just a few rand does the job. Never had a problem in SA.

A few years ago Johnathon Davies was playing rugby league at Widnes. A group from the village went up by minibus. He was from the village. On arrival they were approached by a couple of youths (early teens), offering to keep an eye on the bus for £10. At less than £1 each they paid up. Bus was as left on their return and the "security" thanked.
I went to Liverpool once and two little scallies came to me demanding £5 to look after my car. I said no thanks I've got my Alsatian in the back to which they replied ' puts out fires does he?' 😂

When we were there last month there was a migrant camp in a small park just by our hotel, right in the centre of Como with some 500 migrants living in make-shift tents. The hotel said not to worry as "they are not allowed to leave the park" - not sure anybody conveyed that to migrants as they were selling "stuff" in the streets.
All seemingly well behaved and the four Mog's parked in the public car park were not touched over several nights! 👍
