You probably won't get factory aluminium front wings for your 4/4. Your chassis is shorter than the current 4/4 and Plus 4 models; their chassis are based on the post-1975 Plus 8 chassis. In addition, the shape of the Supaform wings is differant that tne earlier wing shape.

I've had front and frear Rutherford fibreglass wings fitted to my car since 1990. They are fit and forget. Only the anally challenged or concourse fanatics will baulk at them for reasons of resale.

The other option is to acid dip and repair your existing wings. Steel wings are probably worth repairing depending on condition; pre-Supaform aluminium wings are probably not worth repairing unless you have loads of time, can weld or have a very good friend whocan. The steel beading and aluminium react causing serious corrosion.

Pre-Supaform wings were made in Manchester and the firm that made them is still in existence.

Unless originality so important nothing really wrong with fibre glass wings, my opinion. Make sure they are proper road weight ones though, not flapping around in the breeze weight.
Many years ago several of our Club members contacted me as I was Hon.Sec.they had issues when competing, their fibre glass wings being the problem.
I dropped over to the factory and had a chat with Peter, "Leave it with me Chas."was the outcome. A few days later Peter sent me a note with an official letter, phrased so well,read quickly it could be assumed that if the factory ran out of steel or aluminium wings they had been known to fit road weight fibre glass ones. If fitting aluminium wings may I suggest bonding a thin rubber "mat" on the underside to protect against stone chips.

In the U.S. Fiberglas Wings are common. However, because of the quality of the molds, do detract from the Market Price. If it is a first class job, I think Fiberglas Wings would be more desireable.

looks like we will be considering fibre glass for our plus 4 1958 car i do have steel wings blasted and ready to paint will need the usual filler!

PS the racing mogs use fibre glass because it is so light weight!

Actually the current Superform wings are lighter than the mandated thickness fibreglass wings...

One benefit of fibreglass wings is that they will deform and return to their orginal shape; something that steel and aluminium wings will not do.

This was put to the test at a race at Oulton Park many years ago. I was in second place on the penultimate lap going through Old Hall when I was nerfed then T-boned by another Morgan driver. The force of the impact was taken by my offside front wheel and wing. The damage to my car was a bent wing stay and some cracks in the gelcoat.The other Morgan's front was completely deranged with irrepairable damage to at least one front wing, cowl and possibly the other front wing.

Experience tells me that fibreglass wings are rather more durable and cheaper to purchase than others.

To revive this thread, I collected my wings from Sid Watson today. He has got an extremely good match to my Brooklands Green in the gel coat, so much so that I think I'll just bung them on and see what it looks like rather than bother to get them painted first.

They are lovely quality, I'm very pleased with them - and at way less than half the price of a set of alloy wings, thye make good financial sense. They just need a bit of gentle rubbing down and polishing to get rid of the seam line from the 2-part mould, and drilling for all the lights and other fittings. That should keep me quiet over the winter!
