Oh and I think that dark mornings and evenings seem to bother me less as I get older. Funny really. In fact my early morning stroll to the railway station is the best part of winter. Dark & cold, hardly anybody about although I do sometimes pass a blind man. And no traffic, hardly anything, but then it's 06.15hrs.
What's the protocol for passing a blind man wearing headphones?
So far I've crossed the road and gone stealth.

It's January that does it for me, what is the point of January, it's dark, cold, with short days, Christmas and New Year are forgotten, Spring is still many weeks away, all you have to look forward to is...February.....

So is a Series 3 SWB (Petrol) station wagon a viable daily driver G? Depends on the distance I guess. It would be fine for my trek to Ashchurch every day, 11.5 mi each way, but would use near 1.5 gallons each day, too. Fit freewheeling hubs and an overdrive (if you can find one of the old ones now) and you will use slightly less. A SIIa was my only motor for around 6 years, but I was a lot younger...

Not so I've had some of my best Morgan runs over Dartmoor in January. A topless run out always drives away the dreary days .

So is a Series 3 SWB (Petrol) station wagon a viable daily driver G? Ran a series 3 diesel for a few years at 18000 miles a year. Cheapest motoring I have ever had. Free wheeling hubs made it quieter (still loud at 50mph cruise) but never got around to fitting an overdrive. Cruising to work it averaged 29-30mpg once I had the engine right. Towing - 16-17mpg but ear defenders essential up any long hill. It leaked (they all do that sir). The parts were cheap and easy to get. A large mechano set and easy to work on. Pistons and big ends changed in a day without taking the engine out. Bulkhead changed in 4 days. The only jobs I did not do myself were a gearbox overhaul and chassis welding. They use a prodigious quantity of Hypoy 90 when worn - once I had overhauled the swivels and changed a few seals it dripped a bit less. Rule of thumb is that if a series Land-Rover stops leaking oil it is because there is none left.
