Me again!
Apologies if I am being annoying, this may seem a daft question.
Are narrow bodied plus 4's relatively easy to get hold of, or do people tend to hang on to them thus making them rare?
From a aesthetic point of view I prefer the look of the 4/4, but engine wise I prefer the plus 4. Basically I cannot choose!
Hypothetically, would it be possible to buy a 4/4 and swap the engine, or is that really stretching the options?
Thanks again

Rylan As far as I am aware there is no difference in the width of the bodies, it is the width of the wings which make the difference to the 2 types. It is the width of the wheels which dictate the width of the wings. I chose wire wheels for my + 4 so it came with the wider wings. I could of course be completely wrong on this !!

I was told when I drove the supercharged plus 4 at Allon White it was a narrow bodied plus 4 and 4 inches narrower between the doors . I'm sure DaveW knows the truth on this !

Have you thought of going for the 4/4 and having it remapped etc. to give more power. Although my bog standard 4/4 sport is certainly enough for me.

That's also my understanding. I believe the 'narrow' +4 has 5" wide wheels like the 4/4, and this means they can use narrower wings, but the tub dimensions are the same. If the tub widths were different, then they'd either be having to use different width chassis, which they stopped doing over 20 years ago, or the narrow tub wouldn't bolt down to the chassis rails properly.

Dave did a survey on here and the difference on widths in recent cars is in the wings only. The tubs are the same width was the outcome as I recall it.

Interesting, I was told they no longer offer this as an option.

The body tub widths are the same for 4/4, Plus4 and Roadster. The only difference in the cars is down to the width of the wings. The 4/4 the narrowest with the 5" wires or 80th. Anniversary alloys, then the Plus4 "narrow bodied" (and the 2.0 75th Anniversay 4/4) with the narrow wires and 185 Avons, then the 15" wires and alloys on both Plus4 and Roadster and then finally the widest being those two cars fitted with the 16" wires. To add to the confusion, the front crossheads could be 4/4 or Plus4 widths too on some later cars! Hope that makes sense?
The narrow bodied Plus4 and the 75th Anniversary 4/4 seem to me to be the ideal Trad. Their owners must feel the same as you rarely see them for sale.

The chassis and bodies are all the same now. But the 4/4 still uses the narrow cross-head. I tried to get a Plus 4 cross-head and failed. But it was only for aesthetics, so no big deal When MMC built Tigger in May 2016, They said then that they would no longer build narrow Plus4's, but as it was either that or no deal they relented 'just one more time'.
