I fitted the Garage 56 exhausts along with intake kit and reprogrammed ECU. Transformed my 2012 car completely. My M3W lives in the south of France, where ambient temps can be very high and the pinking even with octane improver and 98 fuel was dreadful. Now totally cured. Only problem is oil temps, with increased engine performance, now above 100ºC. Not a problem for the oil as Motul 300V Le Mans rated to 165º but due to concern about original oil pipes, I am going to replace them with B F Goodridge 200-08 braided steel covered nitrile pipes, rated to 150º. I will get this done (with me supplying the pipe work) when it goes into RD Racing at Le Castellet to have the chassis check and strengthening done, comfort steering kit fitted, new type Centa Compensator, new type rear hub with lightweight steel sprocket and a full service.

New type Centa? New type rear hub? Do tell us more! Not that new a type Centa, as they have been around for some time now. Mine still has the original type torsional vibration compensator that was fitted in April 2012 and when the engine is hot on tick over, it sounds like I have a maracas band playing at the rear of the engine, as the rubbers have worn and squashed. I will be fitting the later Centa compensator that I think has been fitted as original from around 2014/15. I had one of the ultra lightweight, super hard steel, rear sprockets made by Fabian in his missile factory in Belgium. However, in order to fit this I have to change to one of the later black anodised rear hubs, which are slightly longer from side to side, from the earlier plain alloy finish hubs. I will also change the supplied NKK bearings in the new rear hub to heavy duty/high load FAG bearings. It has all been very delayed due to massive problems with the previous local French service agent, who has been imploding for the last 18 months+. Hopefully the new agent will be a huge improvement. Wilson

I am just not sure where to put an oil cooler, where it will either be in cool air flow or safe from dozy French drivers, whose audible park warning system, is when the car behind goes "CRUNCH". For that reason I have decided to do without one for the moment but when I change the oil pipes, I am also going to change the dry sump tank for a vertical alloy cylinder type one with oil/air separator, threaded JIC-08 unions, larger capacity and an additional 1/8" NPT union on it for an oil temperature gauge. As long as the oil stays below 115º-120ºC, I will be quite happy, although Motul says their 300V oil can run hotter than this with no adverse effects. I know someone who fitted an 11 row cooler in the grille on the scavenge line and it made next to no difference to the oil temperature, presumably due to it being in the hot airflow off the cylinders all the time.
