On page 6 shows two different installation methods on two M3W. the Ultra Cool oil cooler also has fans that turn on when the oil becomes hot even if there is no air flow from moving. (the fans (220 CFM) turn on when the oil hits 210 degrees and turn off when the temp gets to 180 degrees)
Im wondering if i can just splice into the line leading to or from the oil tank, not using the oil filter adapter, then mount the cooler elsewhere. Not sure where.

That is the problem - where? I think the best place might be in line with the rear of the wheel, vertically aligned and sticking out of the lower side panel. However the panelling is not very thick metal and quite soft alloy, so I am not sure that you would not get cracks radiating out from the fixing points. The best answer might be to use high strength epoxy to bond stiffening plates behind the fixing points and then bolt the cooler through them.
From the experience of my friend on his M3W, a cooler behind the grille on the scavenge line (oil from the engine to the tank) is a waste of time and money. He actually said it slowed the warm up of the oil on a cold day but made no difference on a hot day/heavy traffic when you really needed it, so was a net negative.
Getting bit more complicated, fit under front cover opposite side to driver where access panel is with ducting from low down or from floor with scoop up to oil radiator, maybe an electric fan behind for standing in traffic ducting away to outside somewhere, off to side maybe!!! Ive been thinking something along these lines but with maybe a heatsink attached to the oil tank, more like a passive cooling without rerouting the oil flow.. Properly the ramblings of a madman
