I am preparing to change the gearbox oil in my 2011 3 litre S2 Roadster and wonder if anybody has done this task themselves. The reason for asking is that when I opened up the inspection hatch in the drivers footwell there was no gearbox filling point. Looking down the passenger footwell there were two inpection hatches so I drilled out the rivets and opened the most promising looking one. There appears to be a filling point about 50mm infront of the inspection hatch. It is going to be a real pain to firstly unscrew the filler plug (which appears to be a big oversize allen key job) then fill the gearbox with oil down a funnel and tube.
Anybody done this job themselves and can you confirm that the filler is indeed the one in the passenger footwell. I am told I have a Ford gearbox in the S2.
Any helpful tips from those that might have done this task would be helpful. If the task defeats me due to a lack of powered ramps I need to explain the task to my friendly local garage

Yes I have been in contact with DaveW. He does not have experience of the S2 gearbox.

Buy a cheap oil pump and do it from underneath, I did it last year and was easy. I do have a lifter though but can be done on car ramps.

Jim

I have failed so far to find anything at less than £100 to get gearbox oil into a car when on my lift. Have bought a few things that leaked.

Have you found something to pump gearbox oil that does not leak at a reasonable price yet..

Interesting you have done a S2 gearbox oil change. Can you confirm the filler is indeed on the passenger side and did the filler and inspection hatch line up! I think getting the oil in with tube and funnel might be ok but trying to undo the filler plug might be a sod.

Perhaps a bit drastic but have you considered cutting a better access hole? Shouldn't be a major problem unless there is a danger of damage to parts behind the tunnel. Screwing/rivetting a cover for the hole is straight forward. Beware of heat/sound insulating material behind the tunnel though.

I bought a cheap plastic pump from machine mart £20 It is a hand pump. Bit tedious but it works.

Yes the filler is on the passenger side just above the drain plug. You can reach it with a plastic pipe to fill it from underneath if you can raise you car up of the floor. I used a plastic hand pump from machine mart £20 it has a loop with it that can be hung in the filler whole. Fill it until it overflows, it was around 2 litres I think. I used millers gl-5 ep 75w 80 mineral, this was recommended buy Phil at Brands Hatch Morgan.
