Under 20 to the gallon though No, NO, something wrong there. Cant get less than 25 on and old 3.5.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Not sure wether you will be able to take the +8 Lifes have in stock.Think they are customer's car and insurance will be a problem.I might be wrong but worth checking before the drive .

If you live in an area with widespread speed bumps , you might want to bear in mind that the Roadster has very limited ground clearance and many a driver has hit and damaged the sump as a result.
Comparing the 2 options is a bit like choosing between 2 very appealing experiences , just go with the one that suits you best.
The older +8 will have much more low down torque , it is heavier to steer , it is MUCH simpler to maintain and work on as there are very limited electronics, the exhaust note is nicer (IMHO more like the full orchestra in a stadium than a good string quartet in a concert hall), fuel consumption will be much higher, but it an older car and will probably require more maintenance.
The V6 is lighter to steer, the torque curve is very biased towards the top end, it is a modern efficient engine with full electronics, it is likely to be newer and need less work, BUT that sump clearance could be a deal breaker for you.
Basically try both , preferable over the same route and see how each feels to YOU.
Our opinions are just that , opinions only , it is what suits you that really counts.
PS Both are really good cars and will give a lifetime of smiles and enjoyment.

Lifes will look after you, test drive both variants as they are very different, I would also test drive a 4/4 and a plus 4 as well for comparisons, you will know when you find the right one.
Ian This is excellent advice, each of the cars has got some unique characteristics, the power of the bigger stuff is undoubtedly alluring, but the lightness and agility of the 4/4s is fantastic. The +4s to my mind are a really excellent mid-point, they have more power but retain the lightness of touch, and for touring they are brilliant because they have pretty frugal fuel consumption. Not for nothing are they MMC's biggest-selling car. It all depends on what you prefer and the kinds of roads you like to drive. Try them all, your car will find you.

PS Both are really good cars and will give a lifetime of smiles and enjoyment. I have now an S1 Roadster. I find it excellent. I had the modified sump fitted to improve clearance. Now the hanger under the gearbox grounds as it used to on my +4. I have also owned a 4/4 & a +4. We like touring and the better steering geometry of the newer car , the torque & the then fantastic acceleration if you need it makes the car for me just about perfect.
