Thanks Dave,

Doing some research on that width seems to say that 235 is the minimum tyre width you can fit on them - so now I really am confused!

I must go take a look and see how the tyre looks in the flesh when I am not at work..

Has anyone actually fitted tyres bigger than 225 to an S1 with centre-lock mag wheels?

Yes.....

But the taller profile makes them a bugger to fit and remove.

On the GT car we cut away the arches for more clearance.

Had my S1 for 9 years during which I did about 25,000 miles in it. Always had 225/40/18s on front and rear and never felt the need for anything different. Best tyres were the Vredsteins it ran on. Phenomenal grip, great wear and at the time they were a good deal.

Personally i would find something else to change rather than tyre tyre since I think the car is extremely well balanced as it is.

Cheers Phil, my thought process was more as to why Morgan fitted bigger from the S2 onwards.
