I learned MMC charges £1000,- for changes of the spec. (Is production timing a contract issue?)

Customer satisfaction? innocent

How close to production start did you change spec.?

I placed an order last fall. Build start, week 23. Now; I placed an order for a basic car, with the intention to decide color and spec. within the 6 weeks, before building starts, and the order is locked.
I´m not really in the mood to part with more of my hard earned, knowing that my build date is delayed by 10 weeks, meaning that I´m still about a year from any meaningful morganeering, here in "6-months-of-salt´n-sleet" Norway!

Hopefully MMC will give a heads up if all of a sudden they decide to deliver the car with a 650cc Suzuki engine, and a single front light...

Dr.T: I do not wan to scare you but there is a thread regarding additional costs for changing specs after ordering a 4/4 - so better be careful!

It is starting to seem as if MMC have changed the goalposts and any changes are being charged.

This seems v harsh to me - if in the original "changes allowed" prebuild period.

Anyone have better /more insight??

The problem with making late changes is that it increases the risks of getting things wrong in production. My guess is that the charges pay for a person to manually change the bill of materials and to double check compliance during assembly, which is not unreasonable.

It's common throughout the motor industry. I wanted to change the colour of the alloys on my MINI Cooper some years ago a week after ordering and two months before build. £500!

The difference to me is that at Morgan you are led to believe that you are dealing with a friendly family business able to make bespoke cars to just how you want them.

To act like a large corporation where fast moving assembly lines may have to be interrupted is losing some of the Morgan charm and magic surrounding the build process.

If Morgan have to buy in new leather colours of special wheels etc I can understand some cost being passed onto the customer. Some customers must also be a right pain constantly having last minute thoughts on specifications. Makes you wonder though if they have bought some computer software from Toyota or BMW that have charges built in to the system.

My car was a stock showroom car and it just happened to be the spec I wanted. However, I felt that I might have missed out by not having a car built - however now I am not so sure I did miss out on anything going by some comments on here.

Perhaps new stock cars are the way to go? Incidentally - how are the new three wheelers going to be impacted by the new road fund licence in the UK?

Blame the SAP driven production system. (I know this doesn't apply to MMC, but they seem to have a similar manual system which is, if anything, less flexible. Unless SM wants it to happen, when it does.)

The result is that decision dates are fixed, changes after a decision date require manual intervention which causes a cascade of other changes and so on, all of which require a person to approve.

The charge reflects the time needed by a process engineer to make the change and check that there are no other issues that need to be reviewed.

I made a LOT of 11th hour changes, and missed an entire driving season because of it. And in retrospect? Totally worth it! You can read my thread on here for the boring details! Or the quick one here.

Get the car you want and love it forever.
Or settle and always have that regret?
Only you can answer that one!

You can change your spec free of charge up to a certain date, on the M3W. After that date it is locked in, and you cant change it, for any amount of money. At least that is what they told my dealer.
