I always think it's a good idea to taste your meal before adding salt. I would normally agree but the mountain of evidence against the outstandingly crude silencing (sic) of standard factory exhausts screams for more pepper. Try a car fitted with stage 1 kit. You will find yourself changing up at much lower revs simply because you can

Just one more great reason for divorce. It's expensive BECAUSE it's worth it!

If the M3W is going through the MSVA test it will need to be a lot quieter - 99dBA limit at 0.5m and 45 degree angle.
John The VIN plate states 95dBA which I would assume is with the standard exhausts. My MMC Stage 1 "passed" a Goodwood 98dB noise test but I suspect was a few over as they wouldn't tell me what the reading was.

My G56 pipes also passed the Goodwood test, but it really depends on who wields the noise meter on the day. There's a Mr Grumpy and a Mr Happy - guess which of those two you need to worry about....

Or you can choose Magnaflow for under $300.00 if you can do the work yourself or a little more to have them installed! I can't see how you can beat the Magnaflow sound or added performance improvements! Check out my thread on this forum. [img:center] [/img] [img:center] [/img] High Noon Speed Shop

Thanks for all the replies, guys. I have gone ahead with the standard pipes (as had no other choice) and then will get my dealer to retrofit G56 pipes after I take delivery of the car from the factory. G56 currently don't have their stage 1 kit in stock but they have said new stock of the exhausts should be coming "within the fortnight and the air filter cover assemblies within the month". I have put myself down on their waiting list. High Noon, your Magnaflows look and sound great but I have no mechanical expertise whatsoever so I'll be leaving it to my dealer to install the G56 kit.

I agree the Magnaflows look good, but they will be much louder than the G56 pipes - simple physics and the size of the silencers dictates that. Having sat in the Krazy Cafe above their dyno room yesterday, I can confirm that the G56 pipes really make your cups of tea rattle and roll...! Imagine the noise with a much smaller silencer box

my advice would be to drill the number one baffle of the stock pipes before you spend the money on the upgrade. You may find it makes just enough change to keep the pipes from getting overly hot without making the car ridiculously loud
