Does any forum member have any recommendations for supply of aluminium rear brake drums (Alfin type?) to fit a Plus 8.

They will be hidden.
Do you race?
If you are really chasing performance then perhaps.
The brake upgrade I would be interested in is ABS. It is fairly easy to lock the wheels with standard brakes let alone upgrades. Perhaps a brake bias valve to fine tune front/rear braking as well?

If you are really chasing performance then perhaps.
The brake upgrade I would be interested in is ABS. It is fairly easy to lock the wheels with standard brakes let alone upgrades. Perhaps a brake bias valve to fine tune front/rear braking as well? I agree. I have Datson Alloy Drums on My Wire wheeled DHC. Keeping them shiny is a B----.

Yes they do, I thought about them for my old MG TC where they are very visible and the finning looks great but on most later cars they are pretty much hidden. Not sure they add much otherwise. Nice though.

You could just modify the original brake drums by getting a machine shop to turning the outside diameter true and then get an alloy muff turned and bored undersize.
You then heat the muff up and place it on the brake drum. As it cools it contracts onto the brake drum. Done correctly, it will have the grip of death on it and if the brakes ever get hot enough to loosen the muff then you have serious problems with your brakes!
I've done this on my 1936 F2 racer (on Morris 1000 drums), a Douglas 90 Plus motorcycle and a Grand Prix New Imperial (to cure a problem with the spoke tension pulling the front hub out of round)

Alloy drums are about heat dissipation to avoid brake fade. As indeed are discs. Spirited road driving particularly with long down hills can give brake fade
