I'm planning my journey to Goodwood, starting from my brother's house in Surry. I will be taking the A3 to Guildford and Milford, from there Which is the most scenic route, A283 or A286?

Cheers

My preference for the journey would be A283 and Petworth.

The Petworth road is the most attractive, but whichever you choose avoid the A27.

I usually go on A286 and come back on A283

I assume you mean for the FoS this weekend? If so then the A283 just edges it if for no other reason than it avoids Midhurst, which can be a bit of a bottleneck. Also, if you time it right you stand a good chance of getting into car park M which is a very short walk to the action.

There's a nice back road from the A283 that I use - it avoids Petworth and is normally quite a quick run through. PM me if you'd like the detail.

From my one and only experience the real PITA is the final country lane approach - 90 mins if I remember. There are only two answers. One is to go real early. The other is two wheels.

Or I suppose you could fly in if his lordship agrees.

I was down at Goodwood a few weeks back and they have just totally re surfaced the runway. I cannot imagine the amount of grass seed needed for a field that size.

Thanks for the advice chaps, I think Howard is spot on, I'll get the chopper ready...oh no, not that advice, the other one; go early!

Still not sure if I will be in the Mog or Volvo as there is an awful lot of work to finish off!

People posting on Pistonheads say using the campsite is best. You can walk to the site and that avoids the traffic on the day. Many are also giving it a miss as the growds are huge and getting close to the Hill etc is difficult.
I went to the Battle of Britain day there last year to watch the flights leave for country wide events. Awesome day BUT delays getting into and out of carparks due to roads/traffic. A mate and his wife nearly turned back when just a couple of miles away. They came from Surrey.
OK...that's enough negatives!
It is a great looking event and I will go soon. On the bucket list. I do have a small bivvy for camping!
