This has been My experience for over 30 years. At least with practice it gets a bit easier. Not Much However!

A dealer told me on Saturday, that I don't need to grease them on the newer models, this can wait until the service is due, and be carried out then.

I still grease mine every 500 miles or so........

A while ago someone on here recommended using a G Coupler on the grease gun. I bought one and used it the last time I greased the king pins. It certainly made the job much easier and I can also recommend it. I had purchased a remote greasing kit, but wasn't really convinced that it was the right thing to do so I didn't fit it, especially as I think it is necessary to get underneath and wipe off the excess grease, so what's the point?

I have found that, in addition to regular greasing, if you attach the gaiter to the re bound spring with a cable tie, rather than to the stub, it stays in place for longer and protects for more of the time.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

The G coupler is a godsend IMHO - I did specify the remote grease kit and find it a boon particularly when away on a trip -- I agree it is necessary to get underneath to check the various nuts and bolts and to see no excess grease is likely to get on the disks, but that is NOT necessary every time you grease the kingpins - I get under mine about every three months and find that is perfectly adequate. NOw maybe if you only did 1000miles a year or so it would be different, but mine is no garage queen!

That looks like a great idea, if only to avoid stressing the nipples (ooer matron!). I've had a couple break over the years, but never when touring fortunately although I carry spares. I've ordered a coupler which I'll road test in a couple a weeks.

I look forward to your road test!
It is such a (potentially) messy job - or is it just me?

It's not so much the mess but the stress that you put on the nipple removing the grease gun sometimes. There's also the potential for barking your knuckles if it comes away quickly.

Hmmm I've never barked my knuckles pulling away quickly from a nipple hide
