Yep....250W max and 15.5mph. Of course you can go faster if you put the pedal effort in 🤓 As far as stability is concerned Peter, our bikes handle just like any bike. They are heavy though....which isn't surprising with a motor and battery to cope with.

Alis is a bit of a speed demon. She comes back from a ride with a smile on her face and tells me what her pedal rate was and the maximum speed of 35 kph. It's all registered on the Bosch controller. I'm not sure how she does it but probably on a fast downhill run and with the power assistance turning itself off.

I'm told that there are ways of "tuning" the system to get more assistance at speed.

The additional weight of a Pedelec brings two advantages - firstly you can get a really good workout if you turn the power off as you're having to shift so much more mass, and secondly you can get a cracking speed up on the downhill runs.

The maximum I've seen on my speedo is 37mph, and although the bike was perfectly stable it was a bit scary to be honest. Fortunately the hydraulic disc brakes are truly excellent.

Interesting that they now use hydraulic brakes. Ours do not use disks but have hydraulic rim brakes. The pistons and shoes of the pinzers are mounted individually either side of the rim and you need to unclip one from its mounting pin to remove the wheel. The only thing that has me bit tricked is that I can't see how you fill them with fluid.

I just had a look at the Magura site and discovered that touring type pedelecs could even have ABS from next year!

My Specialized Turbo Vado's motor completely declutches when turned off and the pedalling effort is much the same as my mountain bike. The hydraulic disc brakes? Well all I can say is I'm glad the levers are so small....otherwise I'd be over the handlebars!

Wen has topped 28mph on hers.....I'm not that brave as it was down a steep hill in our village and I still remember a guy killing himself down there when I was a lad. She's already had an off....forced into the curb by an impatient driver who thought he could overtake against incoming traffic....he didn't stop😡 Luckily she got away with a scraped knee and pride.

I changed my mountainbike this spring from a Specialized stumpjumper to a Spezialized Velo. This is my first e_MTB and I love it. "It's You, only faster" is true. The motor only gives support when I am pedaling and the more torque I produce the more support the bike gives to me. So it is still "true" mountainbiking.

Best regards from Austria

Too right,Tim - we do our weekly shop on the bikes and just up the assistance a notch for the hills In fact we use the bikes for all journeys less than 20Kms. Gets us exercise as well as fresh air!!
