The service schedule changed a couple of years ago - BB oil change every service.

Millers 140 does seem to help quieten it down a bit.

Morgan and Quaife (at their highest level) have looked at this quite extensively. There doesn't appear to be a "magic bullet" to quieten down the current BB. Also, a significant part of the problem is the BB is mounted relatively close to your ears with the seat-back acting as a sounding board.

It's notable that Garage 56 haven't come up with anything better either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's OK, but have just come to accept it is what it is and live with it.

I ran a survey last year but notice that the spreadsheet of responses been lost with Photobucket - I'll post a copy up from work tomorrow.

Two of the findings were:

A heavyweight oil designed for use in classic car gearboxes, such as Millers 140, does help.

The NVH kit and Redline shockproof seem to have mixed success.

Is that EP 140 or plain 140.

I really do believe that its a case of "do not start here".

What is needed IMO is a full and potentially radical rethink of the transmission after the gearbox ( oops forgot the Cush Drive).

There are many out there on Bikes - Honda,Guzzi,BMW etc with well developed systems which simply work.

Not suggesting a direct lift off - just comparing where the M3W is now.

I do believe that if the Quaife system was fixable it would have been fixed x now.

More vitally I hope that MMC can partner with ANO to sort this issue.

I did a 380 mile round trip today to a small diner in the middle of nowhere in northern Wisc. I normally wear earplugs, but at about 65mph I pulled out one plug, and no whining or screaming at all. This is with about 8000 miles on the M3W. It has finally gone quiet! I am convinced that the gears do eventually lap in, and quite down at some point. Ambient temp today about 82F.

Curious question about lapping in. If the bevel box eventually laps in I would expect how the M3W is driven, aggressively - mildly, would be a modulator. Mine is quite and always has been, but I've also beat on it since day 1. I've done countless burnouts, doughnuts, always accelerate hard and have hit 109-110 MPH multiple times (GPS speed). I only have 7000 miles. The point of this is to see if those that drive "responsibly" (less lapping) have nosier bevel boxes than folks like me

As an update to the survey my car had a new chassis at 9466 miles. Originally it did not have the NVH kit but now does. The BB noise is still there but its changed a bit, it now seems to peak at 45 to 55mph & still almost disappears above 60mph. Its still quiet for 10 to 15 miles from cold. I conclude the NVH is just unnecessary wight.
