Expect that the things that will need changing post test are rear light position, wheel spinners, windscreens etc.

Surely more likely to be this one as its for cars. I think the M3W would fall into class L (very low production vehicles), with no more than three hundred built in a 12 month period.

Well only if they bolt another wheel onto it : IVA is for category M and N vehicles which must have a minimum of four wheels. MSVA covers all three wheel vehicles (trikes, sidecars, 3-wheelers and 3-wheeled goods vehicles).

Thanks for the explanation John. I wrongly assumed that our M3W's being car derived, fell into that category.

A little concerned the powers that be are grouping M3W's with motorcycles though albeit just for vehicle approval. This especially given the debacle in the US where motorcycle headlight spacing rules are forced upon M3W's.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given the taxation class is private/light goods doh

Yes Richard, it is rather confusing and not helped by the fact that the M3W is then licensed as a car rather than a tricycle. I think this is because it exceeds the 450Kg weight limit for a tricycle, but there is no weight limit for the MSVA type approval so it would seem that still applies.
I've looked into this because I am building a 3 wheeler and this will eventually need MSVA approval. It seems quite standard practice amongst the kit builders to submit the vehicle for approval in a state that will pass and then apply later modifications to make it driveable. A particular problem if it is fitted with windscreens is that it must also include wipers, washers and a de-mister.
MSVA is, however, a much less stringent examination than IVA, and includes only rudimentary emissions requirements and no ABS or limits on internal sharp surfaces atc.

Good news - my M3W got its SVA today.

I didn't realise it had to be transported to the local testing centre and back. I assumed the inspection would be carried out at MMC.

Anyhow its done now except for the work to return it to my spec and should be collected from the factory on Friday by Krazy Horse. They will then fit their Empire steering kit, chrome wheels and do their own PDI. So all being well I should be the proud owner on Friday 1st September.

I was at the factory on Friday and Euro 4 cars start production in a couple of weeks. Mine is the 35th E4 car and was due in week 40, but they say they are 4 weeks behind so expecting it to be made in week 44.
I was interested in the changes to the ride height and wondering whether to bother with the new lowering kit. Although there was no full E4 spec car on show they had a E3 car with the rear raised to E4 height and the body work is about 2" higher off the ground. This achieved with having now two brackets on rear swing arm for the lower spring bolts - so easy to move up and down.
The front height increase is achieved by having a new upright with the axel stub welded about 50 mm lower down. It also now has two separate brackets for the steering arm and mudguard - a better design. The car looks a little higher but not peculiarly so. I spoke to people in the 3W workshop and they say it's the same to drive, but better over speed bumps and less likely to back into kerbs!
